The best time for the Nashik–Trimbakeshwar Kumbh 2027 trip from Mumbai depends on what you want: the Amrit Snan crowds of 2 August, 31 August and 11–12 September 2027, or the same Godavari dip on a cool weekday between November 2026 and February 2027. The Simhastha runs 21 months, not three days.
The Simhastha opens with dhwajarohan on 31 October 2026 at Ramkund and Kushavarta and closes on 24 July 2028. The three Amrit Snan days sit in a six-week band in August–September 2027, and everything else is parva snan on ordinary tithis.
31 October 2026 — dhwajarohan; Kumbh is formally open
29 July 2027 — Nagar Pradakshina in Nashik
2 August 2027 — first Amrit Snan, Somvati Amavasya
31 August 2027 — second Amrit Snan, Shravan Amavasya
11 September 2027 — third Amrit Snan at Ramkund (Vaishnav akhadas)
12 September 2027 — third Amrit Snan at Kushavarta (Shaiva akhadas)
Our companion route and stay guide for this trip covers the drive, trains and parking rings; this post is about picking the week. The Simhastha schedule post lists the parva snan tithis as they are published.
Nashik is cooler and drier than Mumbai in every month, and Trimbakeshwar is wetter than Nashik. Trimbak averages around 488 mm of rain in July and 433 mm in August; one day in a recent monsoon dropped 245 mm on the taluka in 24 hours.
| Window | Nashik weather | Kumbh crowd | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nov 2026–Feb 2027 | 8–32°C, dry | Light, Kartik Purnima spike | Best for elders and children |
| Mar–mid Jun 2027 | 35–40°C by April–May | Light to moderate | Go only for early darshan |
| Late Jun–Jul 2027 | Heaviest rain, ghat landslides | Building toward Pradakshina | Avoid NH-160 entirely |
| Aug–12 Sept 2027 | 271 mm in Aug, humid | Amrit Snan peaks | Only if you want the procession |
| Mid Sept–Oct 2027 | Rain easing, 213 mm in Sept | Falls fast after 12 Sept | Good value, river still full |
| Nov 2027–Jul 2028 | Winter then summer |
Diwali is on 8 November 2026 and Kartik Purnima on 24 November 2026, both within the first month of the Kumbh. A Mumbai family can do dhwajarohan week and Kartik Purnima at Kushavarta before the crowds learn the roads.
Shravan 2027 in Maharashtra runs 3 to 31 August, with Shravan Somvars on 9, 16, 23 and 30 August. Each of those Mondays brings Mumbai traffic to Trimbakeshwar even without a Kumbh; our Shravan Somvar guide shows the queue on an ordinary year.
6 August 2027 — Nag Panchami, four days after the first Amrit Snan
14–16 August 2027 — Independence Day Sunday plus a Shravan Somvar: a long weekend
17 August 2027 — Raksha Bandhan
30–31 August 2027 — last Shravan Somvar straight into the second Amrit Snan
4–14 September 2027 — Ganeshotsav, with the third Amrit Snan inside it
Winter and spring spikes — Makar Sankranti 14 January, Nivruttinath yatra 1 February, Mahashivratri 6 March, Ram Navami 15 April 2027
The two worst days to arrive by road are 31 August and 12 September. On the first, Shravan Somvar crowds have not left; on the second, Ganpati traffic is already on the Mumbai–Nashik corridor.
Mumbai to Nashik via the Samruddhi Mahamarg is 2.5–3 hours in any weather, because it is access-controlled and bypasses Kasara ghat. The old NH-160 takes 4–5 hours and is the one that fails in rain: a landslide on 7 July 2026 cut the ghat to a single lane.
The Godavari itself is the other variable. In August 2025 releases from Gangapur dam put the Ramkund temples under water and closed the ghat stalls for days. If August 2027 is a wet one, expect the same, and keep a day in hand for the snan.
A Panchavati lodge that costs ₹900–2,300 a night in a normal week is already being quoted at 3–5 times that for Amrit Snan dates. Kumbh operators list economy cottages at about ₹3,900 on non-snan days, ₹6,900 on snan days and ₹9,900 on Amrit Snan days, before GST.
| Cost line | Normal week (Nov–Feb) | Amrit Snan week |
|---|---|---|
| Panchavati budget room | ₹900–2,300 | ₹5,000–9,900 quoted |
| Mumbai–Nashik sedan, one way | ₹2,200–2,700 | Expect surge, book early |
| Mumbai–Nashik Innova, one way | ₹3,900–4,500 | Expect surge, book early |
| Trimbakeshwar VIP darshan | Normally available | Suspended, as in Shravan 2026 |
The cheapest honest week is a Tuesday to Thursday in late November 2026 or January–February 2027. The river, the akhadas' camps at Tapovan Sadhugram and the kund are all open; only the procession is missing.
Elderly parents — second half of November 2026 or February 2027; 12–30°C, car to the door, no shuttle walk.
Children on school holidays — Diwali week 2026 (6–10 November) is open and cool; May 2027 is 40°C, skip it.
You want the akhada procession — 11 September at Ramkund or 12 September at Kushavarta; sleep in town the night before.
Budget — a non-snan weekday by Panchavati Express and MSRTC shuttle; rooms at normal rates.
Shravan devotion — 9 or 23 August 2027, the Somvars not glued to an Amrit Snan.
31 August by road — Shravan Amavasya plus the last Somvar; 3 lakh car-equivalent parking fills and the inner city is sealed.
NH-160 in July–August — Kasara ghat closures; use Samruddhi.
April–May afternoons — 39–40°C at Ramkund with no shade on the ghat.
Hotel bookings without a cancellation clause — Godavari flood days close the ghat without notice.

For November to February, book a Panchavati or Trimbakeshwar room two to three weeks out at normal rates. Our Trimbakeshwar best-time post covers which side of the temple to sleep on.
For Amrit Snan week, book four to six months ahead and read the Kumbh stay guide first. Private tent cities are only now being licensed, so the room count will grow but not the rooms near the kund.
Choose the week for the people travelling with you, not for the headline date. Har Har Mahadev.
