Most Yatris who do the three Maharashtra Jyotirlingas from Nashik arrive by train, at Nashik Road station (NK). The loop to Trimbakeshwar, Bhimashankar and Grishneshwar can start right at the platform — but only if the train time fits the first day.
This guide covers what to expect at the station, how your arrival time decides the plan, and how to time the train home.
Nashik Road is the main station for Nashik, on the Central Railway line from Mumbai towards Bhusawal. Most long-distance trains that serve the city stop here rather than in Nashik proper.
Station code: NK. Search tickets for "Nashik Road", not "Nashik".
Distance to Nashik city: about 9 km west.
Distance to Trimbakeshwar: roughly 35–40 km across the city, about an hour by road.
Nearest temple: Muktidham, the white marble temple complex, is a few minutes from the station.
Getting a car: autos and app cabs wait outside, but for a 3-day loop a pre-booked car saves bargaining at dawn.
The loop's first stop is Trimbakeshwar, so the drive from the platform is the first hour of Day 1 — not a separate transfer.
Day 1 has a hard edge: the last stretch to Bhimashankar is a narrow forest ghat road, and it should be driven in daylight. Work backwards from that.
| Train reaches Nashik Road | What to do |
|---|---|
| Before 7 AM | Start straight away — Trimbakeshwar darshan, then on to Bhimashankar by mid-afternoon |
| 7 AM to 9 AM | Still fine. Keep Trimbakeshwar short and skip Kushavarta if the queue is long |
| After 9 AM | Trimbakeshwar and Panchavati today, one night in Nashik, start the loop next morning |
| Evening or night | Sleep near the station and leave at 6 AM |
The full day-by-day route, with distances and darshan windows, is in our 3 Jyotirlinga tour from Nashik guide.
Once you are in the car, the three days run the same as from anywhere in Nashik.
Day 1: Nashik Road → Trimbakeshwar → Bhimashankar. Night at Bhimashankar.
Day 2: Bhimashankar → Shani Shingnapur → Shirdi. Night at Shirdi.
Day 3: Shirdi → Grishneshwar → Ellora → Panchavati → Nashik Road. Drop around 7:30 PM.
The whole loop is about 825 km. Before you board, register for a Bhimashankar darshan slot on shreebhimashankar.com — walk-in darshan stopped after the temple's 2026 renovation.
If you only have one day, our Trimbakeshwar one-day plan from Nashik Road covers the single-temple version.
If your train reaches Nashik Road after 9 AM, the lost half-day is not wasted. Trimbakeshwar is the one Jyotirlinga on this loop you can do without the ghat, so do it on arrival day instead of Day 1.
Afternoon: Trimbakeshwar darshan, then Kushavarta Kund, the tank where the Godavari is said to rise.
Evening: back through Nashik to Ramkund and the Kalaram Temple in Panchavati for the evening aarti on the ghats.
On the way to your room: Muktidham, a few minutes from the station, stays open into the evening.
Next morning the loop starts one temple lighter. Day 1 becomes a straight drive to Bhimashankar with time to spare, and the rest of the plan does not change.
Luggage stays in the car. It is the same vehicle for all three days, so there is no need for a station cloakroom or hotel storage between halts.
Book the return with the Day 3 drop in mind. The loop reaches Nashik Road around 7:30 PM, so look for trains leaving after about 8:30 PM.
Heading back to Mumbai? The Panchavati Express (12110) leaves Nashik Road at 07:03 and reaches Mumbai CSMT at 10:45. One more night in Nashik and that morning train is the calmest way home.
Check the start day too. Ellora is closed on Tuesdays, and on this loop it falls on Day 3 — so a trip that starts on a Sunday misses it.

If your train arrives late or leaves early, one night in Nashik bookends the trip. Staying near Nashik Road saves the cross-city drive at 6 AM; staying near Panchavati puts you by Ramkund and the Kalaram Temple for the evening.
Our guide to where to stay in Nashik compares the station area, Panchavati and the highway belt. On the loop itself the nights are at Bhimashankar and Shirdi — book Bhimashankar first, as rooms there are few.
Step off at Nashik Road, and the three Jyotirlingas are one car ride away — just let the train time decide the first day. Har Har Mahadev 🚩
