Saptashrungi Devi, one of the three and a half Shakti Peeths, sees its single biggest crowd of the year during Sharad Navratri — and 2026's dates are now confirmed: Ghatasthapana falls on Sunday, October 11, and the festival closes with Vijayadashami on Tuesday, October 20.
That's about a month out from today, which is exactly the window to lock your darshan plan before the roads out of Nashik fill up.
Here's what the nine (technically ten) days actually look like on the ground.
Ghatasthapana — the ritual start of Navratri — falls on Sunday, October 11, 2026, and the festival concludes with Vijayadashami (Dussehra) on Tuesday, October 20.
Unusually, 2026's Navratri spans ten calendar days rather than the usual nine, because one tithi covers two sunrises (around October 17-18)
all nine forms of the Devi are still honoured in their normal sequence, just spread across an extra day.
For Saptashrungi specifically, this is the single largest pilgrim event of the year, well ahead of Chaitra Navratri in the spring, and the temple trust typically runs special daily programs and extended hours through the full ten days.
The temple is about 65-66 km from Nashik city, via the Nashik-Kalwan state highway (MH SH-17).
On a normal day the drive takes roughly 1 hour 10 minutes
during Navratri, with festival traffic converging from Kalwan, Vani and beyond, budget closer to 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours each way.
The road itself is in decent shape for a private car or taxi
state transport buses also run from Nashik CBS to Vani, but during the festival they fill up well before departure, so don't count on a same-day return seat without an early start.
Reaching the shrine on foot means climbing roughly 500-510 stone steps up the hill.
The ropeway cuts that to a 2-3 minute ride for ₹90 per adult and ₹45 per child, though you'll still need about 20 more steps from the ropeway station to the sanctum itself.
During Navratri, the ropeway queue can run as long as the temple queue, so it saves your legs more than it saves your time on the festival's peak days
plan for both lines rather than expecting the ropeway to be a shortcut.
Wheelchair assistance is available at the ropeway base for elderly or mobility-limited pilgrims, with priority darshan arranged on request.
With elders: use the ropeway and request wheelchair assistance at the base counter; go on a weekday within the Navratri window rather than on Ashtami or Vijayadashami itself, when the biggest crowds concentrate.
On a budget: climb the 500 steps instead of the ropeway, and travel by state bus from Nashik CBS — book your return seat the moment you arrive, since seats go first.
On a tight schedule: hire a private taxi and leave Nashik well before sunrise; arriving by 6 AM during Navratri is the difference between a short line and a multi-hour wait by mid-morning.
Beyond general darshan, the trust takes bookings for Panchamrit Mahapuja, Sahasranama Archana, Saptashati Path and Maha Abhishek
either online through the temple's booking portal or at the counter on arrival, subject to slots being open during the festival rush.
If you want to be present for a specific aarti rather than just general darshan, book the relevant seva in advance — during Navratri, walk-in slots for these fill early in the day.
Avoid arriving on Ashtami or Vijayadashami without a pre-dawn start
these two days draw the heaviest crowds of the entire festival, with queues that pilgrims report running for hours on the hill's exposed steps.
Avoid assuming the ropeway is always faster than walking during the festival; check the queue at both before committing, since ropeway lines can back up just as badly.
And avoid driving back to Nashik at night without checking road conditions first — the Kalwan-Nashik stretch gets heavy return traffic after the evening aarti on peak Navratri days.

Most Nashik-based visitors do Saptashrungi as a same-day trip
but if you want the pre-dawn darshan slot without a 4 AM start from the city, look at lodging in Kalwan or near the temple base for the Navratri dates specifically
rooms there sell out well before Ghatasthapana given how much heavier this year's crowd is expected to be than a normal weekend.
| Option | Approx. Time from Nashik | Cost | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Private taxi | 1h10m-2h (festival traffic) | Fixed door-to-door fare | Timed darshan, elders |
| State bus (Nashik CBS-Vani) | 1.5-2h+ | Lowest cost | Budget travellers, early booking |
| Self-drive | 1h10m-2h | Fuel + parking | Flexible timing |
Time your visit around the dates and the queue, not just the darshan, and Saptashrungi's Navratri is as manageable as any festival day at a major Shakti Peeth. Jai Ambe.
