Pandharpur, Tuljapur and Akkalkot sit close enough on the map that Yatris often ask whether all three can be covered from one base. They can — Vitthal and Rukmini wait in Pandharpur itself, Tulja Bhavani is about 113 km east, and the Swami Samarth math at Akkalkot is a further 55–65 km south.
Stretch the loop to three days and each shrine gets a proper darshan instead of a rushed stop. This guide lays out the drive leg by leg, with the one timing detail that catches rushed itineraries out.
The route is a rough triangle, not a straight backtrack. Solapur sits roughly in the middle of all three towns and works as a fallback overnight stop if Tuljapur or Akkalkot rooms are full.
| Leg | Distance | Drive Time |
|---|---|---|
| Pandharpur → Tuljapur | ~113 km | ~2–2.5 hrs |
| Tuljapur → Akkalkot | ~55–65 km | ~1.5 hrs |
| Akkalkot → Pandharpur | ~105–110 km | ~2 hrs |
| Full loop | ~280 km | — |
Solapur is about 73 km from Pandharpur, 45 km from Tuljapur and 39 km from Akkalkot — close to equidistant, which is why many Yatris base there instead of moving hotels every night.
Solapur also has the region's nearest airport and its busiest railway junction, so most Yatris fly or take a train there before starting the loop by road. Tuljapur has its own small station with limited services, and Akkalkot's nearest station, Akalkot Road, sits about 11 km outside town.
The loop runs most comfortably between October and March, once the heat eases and queues move faster. Two dates are worth planning around: Tuljapur's Navratri, when the temple runs near round-the-clock Mukh Darshan, and Akkalkot's eight-day Datta Jayanti in December, which alone draws two to three lakh devotees.
Start where you're already based, then head east once the morning darshan is done. There's no reason to rush this first leg — the whole point of three days is giving Vitthal his due before the road begins.
Morning: Kakad Aarti at Vitthal-Rukmini Mandir is at 4:30 AM; Mukh Darshan moves fast, Charan Sparsh Darshan (touching the feet) takes longer but is what most Varkaris come for
Late morning: leave for Tuljapur, a 2–2.5 hour drive
Afternoon: check in and rest before the evening crowd thins
Evening: Tulja Bhavani darshan before Dhup Aarti at 9:30 PM
Overnight: Tuljapur
Return to Tulja Bhavani right after the 4:30 AM Kakad Aarti — the queue is shortest between 4 and 7 AM, before day-trippers from Solapur start arriving.
Akkalkot runs on a different clock than Pandharpur or Tuljapur, and it changes how you time the rest of this day.
Early morning: second darshan at Tulja Bhavani in the short-queue window
Optional detour: Naldurg Fort, about 35 km from Tuljapur on the Solapur–Hyderabad highway, worth an hour if you're not rushing
Midday drive: Tuljapur to Akkalkot is 55–65 km, about 1.5 hours — time it to land before noon
Evening: Swami Samarth darshan is free with no booking; Shej Aarti runs 8–8:45 PM
Overnight: Akkalkot, or Solapur if rooms are tight
The three shrines don't handle crowds the same way, and knowing this in advance saves real time. Pandharpur's queue splits into quick Mukh Darshan from a distance, or the longer Charan Sparsh queue that reaches the charans, and most Varkaris choose to wait for the latter.
Tulja Bhavani sells a paid darshan pass, usually priced somewhere between ₹100 and ₹300 on a normal day, though Navratri weeks push it well higher. Akkalkot's Swami Samarth darshan stays completely free with no booking required, and the math also runs a free Annadan kitchen for visiting Yatris.
Close the loop the way you opened it: darshan first, road second. This is usually the easiest day of the three, since the drive home is the shortest leg and the route back is already familiar.
Early morning: Kakad Aarti is at 5 AM; the 6–8 AM window is the calmest before the day's crowd builds
Late morning: drive back to Pandharpur, 105–110 km, about 2 hours
Afternoon: back at base with the evening free
Three days is the comfortable version of this loop; two days is possible but leaves almost no slack for a delayed darshan or a slow queue.
With elders or small children: take three days — Akkalkot's midday closure and two long drives are hard to compress safely
On a tight schedule: our 2-day Tuljapur & Akkalkot circuit skips a separate Pandharpur day since you're already based here
On a budget: three days means two nights away from Pandharpur; ask about combined taxi packages rather than booking each leg separately
What to avoid: don't schedule Akkalkot as a midday stop, and don't try Tuljapur and Akkalkot darshan on the same evening — both temples deserve unhurried time, not a dash between gates
Naldurg is a bhuikot (land) fort roughly 35 km from Tuljapur on the Solapur–Hyderabad highway, built where two rivers meet. It's an easy add-on between your Tuljapur and Akkalkot legs if Day 2 has spare hours.
Skip it, though, if you're running behind on Akkalkot's midday deadline — the fort will still be there next trip, but a missed darshan window costs you hours of waiting.

Base logic matters more than star ratings on this route, since every night is really about being close to the next morning's darshan.
Pandharpur: stay near the mandir if this is your start and end point — see our where-to-stay guide for areas and Bhaktniwas options
Tuljapur: rooms cluster close to the temple; book ahead on Sundays, Tuesdays and Fridays, the town's busiest darshan days
Akkalkot: stay in town for the early and late darshan windows around the midday closure
Solapur: the practical middle-ground base — see our Solapur stay guide before Akkalkot or Tuljapur
Three days lets Vitthal, Tulja Bhavani and Swami Samarth each get the unhurried darshan they're owed, instead of turning the loop into a dash between temple gates. Jai Vitthal.
