Sharad Navratri 2026 at Tuljapur runs from Ghatasthapana on Sunday 11 October to Vijayadashami on Tuesday 20 October, and from Pune the Tulja Bhavani temple is a 290 to 300 km drive of about six hours. Two decisions follow: which of the ten days to go, and whether to sleep in Tuljapur or Solapur.
The dates follow the standard Maharashtra panchang: Ashwin amavasya is Saturday 10 October, so Ghatasthapana is the 11th. Some calendars print Simollanghan on 21 October; the temple calendar on shrituljabhavani.org is the final word.
| Day | Date | For a Pune Yatri |
|---|---|---|
| Ghatasthapana | Sun 11 Oct | Opening surge, weekend crowd |
| Dwitiya to Panchami | Mon 12 to Thu 15 Oct | Lightest four days |
| Shashthi, Saptami | Fri 16, Sat 17 Oct | Weekend crush begins |
| Ashtami | Mon 19 Oct (tithi from Sun 18) | Peak day, outskirts parking |
| Navami | Mon 19 Oct | Homa, last of the nine nights |
| Vijayadashami | Tue 20 Oct | Simollanghan in the evening |
| Kojagiri Purnima | around 26 Oct | The Devi's rest ends |
The Devi observes the Manchaki Nidra rest before Ghatasthapana, this year from around 3 October, and rests again after Simollanghan until Kojagiri Purnima. Skip those rest days if full gabhara darshan is the point.
The road is the Pune to Solapur highway through Kurkumbh, Bhigwan and Indapur, round the Solapur bypass, then 45 km north-east to Tuljapur. Call it 290 to 300 km and 5.5 to 6.5 hours.
Three timings work from Pune:
Overnight drive: leave at 10 pm, reach by 4 am, darshan at the dawn opening, two hours of sleep, back after lunch.
One night in Tuljapur: arrive by evening, queue at 1 am or 4 am, home by mid-afternoon. The gentlest for elders.
Two nights, Solapur base: reach Solapur by evening, leave at 3 am for the opening, return to Solapur or Pune.
Without a car:
MSRTC from Swargate: roughly every two hours from about 7 am to 6 pm, 5 to 6 hours, fares around ₹220.
Train: Solapur is the nearest big station, about 45 km away; Dharashiv is about 25 km with fewer trains.
On ordinary days the temple opens at 4 am and closes at 10 pm, with a 1 am opening on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday. In Navratri mukh darshan runs close to round the clock, while the gabhara closes for Chaughada, abhishek and aarti, each pause 30 to 60 minutes, about three times a day.
Since June 2026 the trust lists free dharma darshan, a paid darshan at about ₹300 replacing the older ₹100 to ₹200 slabs, and an abhishek pooja at about ₹1,551 for two. Slots open about 30 days ahead, only on shrituljabhavani.org.
Whether the paid line runs on peak Navratri days is decided close to the date, and it has been cut back before. Do not build the trip on a pass; our Solapur team tracks the window in its Tuljapur Navratri guide.
Expect 2 to 4 hours in the free queue on a weekday, 4 to 8 on Ghatasthapana, Ashtami and the last two nights.
Tuljapur's lodges and the trust's Bhakta Niwas sit within a kilometre of the temple and sell out for Navratri weeks ahead. Solapur, about 45 km and 50 to 75 minutes away, has far more rooms at roughly ₹700 to 2,000 a night, near the station or the Central Bus Stand 3 km apart.
| Base | Distance to the temple | Leave for the 4 am opening | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tuljapur | A walk, 60 to 70 steps down from the parking | 3:15 am | Elders, Ashtami and Dashami visitors |
| Solapur | About 45 km, 50 to 75 min | 2:30 am | Families who want a proper hotel |
With elders: a Tuljapur room, the 4 am opening on a weekday between Monday 12 and Thursday 15 October, and mukh darshan without waiting for the gabhara.
On a budget: the Swargate MSRTC bus the evening before, a lodge or Bhakta Niwas bed, the dawn queue, the afternoon bus home.
One day off work: the overnight taxi on Tuesday 13 or Wednesday 14 October, darshan at dawn, Pune by evening.
Here for Ashtami or Simollanghan: book a Tuljapur room now, arrive the day before, accept a queue of several hours.
Avoid: driving in on Sunday 18 October morning expecting to park near the temple, and any same-day weekend return from Pune, a 16 to 18 hour day.
A shawl; the 1 am and 4 am queues are outdoors and October nights on the plateau are cool.
Small notes for the shoe stand, cloakroom and parking, about ₹40 to 50 on normal days.
Phones and leather items go into the cloakroom before the queue, not at the gate.
From Ashtami to Dashami, police hold private vehicles at grounds on the edge of town, and Yatris walk or take shuttles for the last stretch. On Simollanghan evening the lanes around the temple close for the palkhi route. Our Tuljapur darshan hours guide from Pune has the daily aarti sequence.
For a weekday darshan, a Tuljapur lodge or the Bhakta Niwas puts you a short walk from the queue. For Ashtami weekend, or a date fixed late, take a Solapur hotel near the Central Bus Stand; our Solapur stay guide lists areas and prices.
Pick a weekday, sleep near the temple or in Solapur, and let the highway be somebody else's job. Aai Raja Udo Udo, Jai Bhavani.
