Solapur isn't a darshan stop itself for most Yatris — it's the base before Akkalkot's Swami Samarth Mandir or Tuljapur's Bhavani temple. Where you sleep the night before decides how early you actually leave. The city has two very different hubs, and picking the wrong one can cost you 20 minutes you don't have at 5 AM.
Solapur's railway station and its Central Bus Stand (CBS) sit about 3 km apart. Most trains from Mumbai, Pune and Hyderabad land you at the station; most onward buses toward Akkalkot and Tuljapur leave from CBS.
If you're arriving by train and leaving by bus, that 3 km gap matters at 5 AM when auto-rickshaws are scarce. Staying near CBS removes that transfer entirely, which is the whole point if your onward journey starts before the city wakes up.
A shared auto between the two costs around ₹25 and takes about 5 minutes; a private auto runs closer to ₹40–45. Fine for a daytime transfer, less fine when you're groggy at 4:30 AM with luggage and want to make a specific bus.
Flying in changes the math again. Solapur Airport is about 10 km from the city centre, with Star Air connecting to Mumbai and Bengaluru and Fly91 flying in from Goa. It sits roughly on the Akkalkot side of town, so a taxi straight from the airport toward Akkalkot skips the city hubs altogether.
Akkalkot's Swami Samarth Mandir runs its Kakad Aarti around 5 AM, with general darshan opening at 6 AM; the morning window then runs until noon before a midday break. Tuljapur's Tulja Bhavani temple opens even earlier, with the Kakad Aarti around 4:30 AM and the gates open from roughly 4 AM.
Which should you plan around?
Want the very first aarti — leave Solapur by 3–3:30 AM for Tuljapur, or by 4:30 AM for Akkalkot.
Comfortable with mid-morning darshan — a 6–6:30 AM start still gets you there well inside the calm morning window.
Traveling with elders — skip the pre-dawn departure; the afternoon reopening after 4 PM has thinner crowds than midday.
Near the railway station, Kamala Shanti Palace, Hotel Dhruva, Hotel Pratham and Hotel Vrindavan are the names that come up most for a one-night stop. Rooms here run roughly ₹700–2,000 a night depending on season.
For a more pilgrim-style budget stay, Godavari Lodge and the Shri Solapur Gujarati Mitra Mandal sit about 1–1.5 km from the station, offering dormitory beds alongside AC and non-AC rooms, hot water and parking. These fill up faster around major Akkalkot and Tuljapur festival dates, so a same-day walk-in isn't guaranteed then.
| Base near | Best for | Distance to CBS |
|---|---|---|
| Railway station cluster | Arriving and leaving by train, or a leisurely start | ~3 km |
| Central Bus Stand area | Catching the first bus to Akkalkot or Tuljapur | On foot |
| Godavari Lodge / Mitra Mandal | Budget dormitory stay, festival dates | ~1–1.5 km from station |
Akkalkot is about 38 km from Solapur, under an hour by road. Tuljapur is farther, roughly 45–47 km, about an hour by taxi or close to two hours by bus once you count stops.
MSRTC runs buses on both routes through the day from CBS, but the very first departure time shifts often enough that it isn't safe to plan a pre-dawn aarti around it. A private taxi is the only way to guarantee you leave at a fixed hour, not whenever the next bus happens to fill up.
If you land in Solapur early enough for a free evening, the city's chaddar and towel market near the old town is worth a walk. Solapur's cotton bedsheets and terry towels are sold direct from the weaving units here, cheaper than anywhere they're resold elsewhere in Maharashtra.
It's a low-key way to spend the hours before a pre-dawn start — nothing that keeps you out late, just a reason to leave the hotel room for an hour instead of staring at tomorrow's alarm.
Don't book a station-side hotel if you're catching an early bus — the 3 km to CBS eats into sleep you don't have to spare. Don't assume the first bus of the day matches what you read online; MSRTC's early-morning schedules on both routes change without much notice.
Don't skip confirming your dharamshala booking around festival dates at either temple — Solapur's budget lodges fill first when Akkalkot or Tuljapur has a major event.
If your trip covers more than just Solapur, the fuller stay breakdown for the whole temple circuit — Akkalkot, Tuljapur and Pandharpur together — is worth reading before you lock in dates.
A good night in Solapur is really just planning for the temple you're heading to next. Jai Bhavani, Jai Swami Samarth.
