Kalasarpa Shanti at Trimbakeshwar is a single-sitting morning pooja of about 2.5 to 3 hours, done at a pujari's place beside Kushavarta Kund, not inside the temple. Book a muhurat a few days ahead, reach the evening before, bathe at dawn, and you are free by late morning. Below: the days, the booking steps, the ritual and the dress.
In traditional Jyotish, Kalasarpa yoga is a chart pattern where every planet sits between Rahu and Ketu. Kalasarpa Shanti is the classical Vedic remedy, and Trimbakeshwar, where Rahu-Ketu are linked to the Kushavarta tirtha, is where most families come to do it. It is a calm, structured morning of sankalp, nag pooja and homa, not an emergency.
The pattern is described in later astrological texts, not the classical samhitas, so jyotishis differ on how much weight to give it. Most also hold that a planet sitting with Rahu or Ketu cancels the yoga, so have a jyotishi read the full chart first.
The yoga takes its name from Rahu's house; the pooja is identical in all twelve cases, only the sankalp changes.
| Rahu in house | Name | Rahu in house | Name |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1st | Anant | 7th | Takshak |
| 2nd | Kulik | 8th | Karkotak |
| 3rd | Vasuki | 9th | Shankhachud |
| 4th | Shankhpal | 10th | Ghatak |
| 5th | Padma | 11th | Vishdhar |
| 6th | Mahapadma | 12th | Sheshnag |
It is often mentioned with Trimbakeshwar's two ancestor rites, but it is a different subject: Narayan Nagbali runs three days and concerns ancestors, while Tripindi Shraddha is a one-day pind-daan. Our older Kaal Sarp Dosh overview explains the belief in more depth.

Any morning outside Rahu kaal is acceptable; pujaris keep a fixed muhurat calendar and offer the next open slot. Four kinds of days are traditionally preferred and fill first:
Amavasya — the most-chosen day, because Rahu-Ketu rites are tied to the no-moon tithi.
Nag Panchami — Shravan Shukla Panchami, the day of the serpent deities. The 2026 date has passed; 2027 falls on 6 August.
Shravan month — Maharashtra's Shravan 2026 ended on 11 September, so the next window is mid-2027.
Mahashivratri — next on 6 March 2027, when the town is at its most crowded.
| Upcoming Amavasya (2026) | Month | Note |
|---|---|---|
| 10 October | Ashwin, Sarva Pitru Amavasya | Pitru Paksha ends; Tripindi crowds overlap |
| 8 November | Kartik, Diwali Lakshmi pooja day | Some panchangs mark the tithi into 9 November |
| 8 December | Margashirsha | Quietest of the three |
Tithi timings shift by region, so confirm the exact tithi on a Maharashtra panchang before fixing travel. Festival days need pre-booking; an ordinary weekday needs two to three days' notice.
Pick two or three possible dates using the table above and your own leave.
Message us on WhatsApp from the card on this page. We confirm the muhurat and share the pujari's contact, usually within an hour.
Send the sankalp details — name, gotra if known, and birth date, time and place of the person doing the shanti.
Book your stay for the night before; rooms are within walking distance of the kund. Our Kumbh 2027 stays guide says how early to book.
Keep the return loose — nothing leaving Nashik before early afternoon.
In Trimbakeshwar only Tamrapatradhari pujaris, holders of the Purohit Sangh's copper-plate authority, perform these poojas. Ours are registered, KYC-checked and reviewed after every pooja, and the booking covers all samagri, the pujari's dakshina and prasad.
The sitting follows a fixed order, led by the pujari; you repeat mantras and make offerings when asked.
Snan at Kushavarta Kund at dawn, then you change into the pooja clothes.
Sankalp and Ganesh vandana — your name, gotra and intention are spoken aloud.
Punyahavachan, kalash sthapana and Navagraha invocation, with a short Rahu-Ketu pooja.
Nag pratima pooja and abhishek — serpent icons are bathed and offered milk, flowers and turmeric.
Rudra Sukta chanting for Trimbakeshwar.
Homa and purnahuti — the fire offering that closes the ritual.
Aarti and prasad, then the nag pratimas are immersed in the kund.
The sequence takes about 2.5 to 3 hours when it starts on time. One family member of any gender is enough; spouses usually sit together.
Pooja clothes are worn once and left behind, so most families buy a fresh, simple set:
Men: a plain white or cream dhoti with an uparne or gamcha, no shirt.
Women: a saree, or a salwar-kameez with dupatta, in any colour except black or green.
No leather on anyone — belts, wallets, watch straps and shoes stay in the room.
Carry these, nothing more:
A change of normal clothes and a towel for after the kund.
A photo ID, and a printout or screenshot of the birth details.
All samagri comes with the booking. Eat lightly until the pooja ends; most pujaris ask the family to avoid non-veg food and alcohol the day before and after.
Trusted by thousands of Yatris across India.
Reach Trimbakeshwar the evening before. The town is about 30 km from Nashik and 30 to 36 km from Nashik Road railway station by road; the drive takes under an hour outside Kumbh traffic.
| Time | What happens |
|---|---|
| Evening before | Check in, meet or call the pujari, hand over sankalp details |
| 5:30–6:00 am | Snan at Kushavarta Kund, change into pooja clothes |
| 6:30–7:00 am | Sitting begins at the pujari's place |
| 9:30–10:00 am | Homa, aarti, immersion of nag pratimas |
| From 10:30 am | Jyotirlinga darshan, lunch, departure |
Pujaris take morning slots because the homa should finish before midday; a later muhurat is told to you at confirmation. Temple darshan runs through the day, and our aarti timings guide lists each aarti.
Coming with elderly parents: an ordinary weekday, not an Amavasya. Fewer people at the kund, and the pujari's place is a short walk.
On a tight schedule: a weekday morning, with a Nashik return after lunch. Avoid Shravan Mondays and the 2027 Kumbh snan dates.
Wanting the traditional date: Amavasya or Nag Panchami. Book both the slot and the room two to three weeks out.
Combining with ancestor rites: ask whether Tripindi fits the same trip; Narayan Nagbali needs three full days.
Avoid a "two-hour special" offered on the ghat the morning you arrive, since the pujari and venue cannot be checked, and any return leaving Nashik before 2 pm.
