The driver collects you from your address anywhere in Pune city and heads out on the Nashik highway. Leaving before six clears the Chakan stretch before traffic builds and puts you on the ghat in good light.
A short break at a highway restaurant for tea and breakfast. This is the last reliable place for a proper meal before the climb, and worth using.
The taxi parks at the designated lot near the temple. From there it is a walk down a flight of steps to the temple itself, lined with stalls selling puja items, honey and local produce.
Around two and a half hours at the sixth Jyotirlinga. The Nagara-style temple dates to the eighteenth century and the queue is usually manageable on weekday mornings. Mondays, Shravan and Mahashivratri are far busier and will stretch this considerably.
A short forest trail leads to Gupt Bhimashankar, where the Bhima river surfaces among the rocks. Hanuman Lake and the Nagphani viewpoint trail are nearby for anyone with energy left. This is sanctuary land, so stay on the marked paths.
Lunch at one of the small eateries near the temple or back down at Manchar, then the return drive through the ghat.
Drop at your original pickup address. Return timing shifts with how long darshan takes and whether you stop at Chas Kaman Dam on the way down.

About three hours for 110 km. The first half is highway, the second half is a narrow ghat road through the sanctuary where speeds drop sharply, so the distance is misleading.
Yes, some. The temple sits below the parking area and is reached by a long flight of steps, which you climb back up on the way out. Gupt Bhimashankar adds a short forest walk. Anyone with knee trouble should plan for the steps or consider a palki, which local carriers offer at the top.
A weekday outside Shravan. Mondays are heavy year-round because of the Shiva association, and Mahashivratri and the Shravan Mondays see very large crowds with waits of several hours.
It is open but demanding. The ghat gets heavy rain, fog and occasional landslide clearing work between June and September. The forest is at its best then, but budget extra time and expect a slower drive.
No. Food, puja items, shoe stands, any special darshan arrangement and sanctuary fees are paid directly by you. The fare covers the vehicle, driver, fuel, tolls and parking only.
Yes, if it is roughly on the route. Chas Kaman Dam and the Rajgurunagar area are easy additions. Anything that pulls significantly off the highway is better discussed before booking so the day still fits.
Patchy, and unreliable on the ghat. Fix a meeting point and a rough return time with the driver at the parking lot rather than relying on calling him afterwards.
