Nag Panchami in 2027 falls on Friday, 6 August, linking Maharashtra's naga-worship traditions to daily life at Bhimashankar, one of the state's three Jyotirlingas. Yatris usually do a nag puja at home first, then come for darshan of the Shivling inside the wildlife sanctuary.
This guide covers the verified date, the difference from a normal Shravan Monday, and why road access is the only option this year.
Nag Panchami 2027 falls on Friday, 6 August, with the Shravan Shukla Panchami tithi running from the early hours of the 6th to just past midnight on the 7th. That gives the whole day for pooja, so there is no single narrow muhurat to chase.
At most naga shrines across Maharashtra, devotees bathe a naga image in milk, turmeric, kumkum and akshat rice before offering flowers. Bhimashankar does not publicise a separate naga-only ritual inside the sanctum — the day's temple programme stays the standard Shravan schedule of Rudrabhishek and abhishek on the Shivling.
Most Yatris do their nag puja at home or at a local naga shrine first, then travel to Bhimashankar the same day for jyotirlinga darshan.
6 August 2027 falls inside Shravan month, so the temple's extended Shravan-season darshan timings should apply — roughly 5 am to 9:30 pm, longer than the regular 6 am–9 pm window.
On Mondays, Pradosh days and through Shravan Maas, abhishek inside the temple continues till 6 pm. The same cut-off should hold on Nag Panchami too, since it falls within the month.
Nag Panchami 2027 lands on a Friday, not a Shravan Monday, so it will likely avoid the single biggest rush of the season — the Somvar vrat crowd. It is still a major festival day, though, and general queues have stretched past three hours on comparably busy Shravan dates in the past.
VIP darshan passes were scrapped in 2026, so every Yatri now joins the same general queue regardless of how they arrive. It also helps to check what you can and cannot carry inside before you join the line.
Every year from 1 July to 30 September, the forest department closes the trekking routes inside the Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary, including the Shidi Ghat and the Ghongal Ghat Nala–Khandas connecting route, because of monsoon flood risk. Nag Panchami 2027 falls squarely inside that window.
That means the usual trekker's approach via Ganesh Ghat or Shidi Ghat is simply not available this year on this date. The only practical way in is by road, via the ghat route from Pune, Karjat or Manchar, whichever is closer to where you start.
Slippery hairpin bends and monsoon mist make the drive slower than in winter. Budget extra time, and prefer a driver who already knows the ghat well.
| Aspect | Normal Shravan Monday | Nag Panchami (6 Aug 2027, Friday) |
|---|---|---|
| Main draw | Somvar vrat, weekly Shiva fasting | Naga worship plus jyotirlinga darshan |
| Darshan hours | Extended Shravan hours, ~5 am–9:30 pm | Same extended hours, since the date falls in Shravan |
| Abhishek cut-off | Till 6 pm inside the temple | Till 6 pm inside the temple (Shravan Maas rule) |
| Typical queue | Can stretch past 3 hours on peak Somvars | Busy, but a Friday has historically drawn less than a Somvar |
| Trekking trails | Closed 1 Jul–30 Sep regardless | Closed 1 Jul–30 Sep regardless |
| Quietest slot | 5–7 am | 5–7 am |
If your calendar is built around the weekly fast, our Shravan Somvar guide covers that rush in detail; this page stays focused on the naga-worship date itself.
Travelling with elders or young children — go by road only and arrive by 6 am; avoid the closed ghat trails, since the forest department has made that decision for you this year anyway.
On a budget — there is no VIP darshan left to buy, so travel by shared taxi or state bus and join the regular queue; save the extra spend for a decent room instead.
On a tight schedule — book a private taxi for a same-day Pune–Bhimashankar–Pune run, enter before 7 am, and treat late morning (10 am–2 pm) as the slowest window.

Trusted by thousands of Yatris across India.
Bhimashankar has no Trust-run bhaktniwas that outsiders can simply walk into, so settle a room before you travel. Basic lodges cluster within a five-minute walk of the temple gate, useful for the 5–7 am quiet slot without a pre-dawn drive.
Staying in Pune or Karjat and driving up on the day works well if you would rather sleep in a proper hotel; see our early-darshan stay guide for options. Confirm your room a day or two ahead — Nag Panchami pulls enough Yatris that last-minute lodges near the gate fill up fast.
Nag Panchami 2027 gives Yatris a full day, a verified Friday date, and a clear road-only route into Bhimashankar — plan the early slot, skip the closed trails, and the day comes together easily. Har Har Mahadev.
