Kopargaon to Shirdi — The Real, Practical Guide (2026)

Many Sainagar Shirdi trains run direct — but plenty of Mumbai-side trains stop only at Kopargaon. If your ticket ends at Kopargaon, the real questions start the moment you walk out of the station: where do I go, how much should it cost, and what about a late-night arrival? This is the on-the-ground guide.

Quick facts

  • Distance: about 15–18 km on a straight highway.
  • Travel time: 25–35 minutes.
  • Transport availability: 24×7 — day or night, you’ll find a ride.

The one thing to remember: the going rate is ~₹100 per person in a shared auto or shared taxi. Knowing the number stops anyone from talking you into more.

Shared auto / shared taxi
MOST POPULAR
Step outside the station and there are several lined up. 6-seater autos and shared sedans, fitting 4–6 passengers. ~₹100 per person, 25–30 minutes door to door. The most popular pick — and the most economical for solos or couples.
Private taxi / full cab
COMFORT
If you’re with family, elderly members, or heavy luggage, taking the whole vehicle is the easy way. Sedan ₹400–500, Innova/SUV ₹600–800. A private auto runs ₹300–400. Book at the station kiosk or try Ola/Uber (coverage is patchy — keep a local cab as backup).
MSRTC bus
CHEAPEST
Truly the cheapest at ₹20–40, every 15–30 minutes, ~30–40 min ride. The catch: buses don’t leave from the railway station — they leave from the Kopargaon bus stand, about 4 km away. Add the auto-to-the-bus-stand hop and a shared auto direct from the station usually wins on total time + hassle.
Arriving late at night? Don't worry.
Plenty of Mumbai-side trains drop pilgrims in Kopargaon between midnight and 4 AM. Shared autos, auto-rickshaws and taxis all run through the night on this route — same ~₹100/person fare. If you'd rather not hunt, ask your hotel for a pick-up; many in Shirdi offer one.

Which option for whom?

  • Solo or couple on a budget — shared auto / shared taxi (₹100 per person).
  • Family, elderly or kids along — a full private taxi.
  • Late-night arrival — shared auto works fine, or a hotel pick-up if you want zero fuss.
  • Tightest budget, light traveller — MSRTC bus (only if you’re fine with the bus-stand detour).

Where you’ll get dropped in Shirdi

Most autos and shared taxis drop you near Sai Nagar or Khandoba Chowk — right by the temple area. From there your hotel or stay starts. Tell the driver the hotel name and they’ll usually go a bit further at no extra cost.

Stay in Kopargaon or in Shirdi?

Some pilgrims think it’s cheaper to stay in Kopargaon. In practice it just adds friction:

  • You pay the fare and lose the time on every Shirdi visit.
  • Getting out early for the morning aarti becomes much harder.
  • Daily back-and-forth tires elderly pilgrims out.

Stay in Shirdi, within walking distance of the temple. The whole yatra becomes quieter and simpler.

After you reach — what to look for in a stay

When choosing where to stay in Shirdi, check:

  • The real walking distance to the temple (in metres, not just “near temple”).
  • Whether free cancellation is available.
  • A lift or ground-floor rooms, if elders are along.
  • Real interior photos, not stock images.
