Heading to Pandharpur for Vitthal-Rukmini darshan and want to travel by train? Here's the honest picture: Pandharpur has its own railway station (code PVR) — but it's a small station with a limited number of direct trains. So depending on where you're coming from, you'll either catch a direct train to Pandharpur, or route through one of two big junctions nearby — Kurduvadi or Solapur. This guide explains all three, with distances and the best choice by city.
At a glance
Pandharpur's own station: PVR (Central Railway) — small, with limited direct trains.
Nearest major junction: Kurduvadi (KWV) — about 52 km, on the Mumbai–Chennai line.
Best-connected junction: Solapur (SUR) — about 74 km, broad gauge, trains from across India.
From the railhead: buses and taxis to Pandharpur town run frequently.
Yes. Pandharpur station (PVR) sits in Ganesh Nagar, Pandharpur, in the Solapur division of Central Railway. It has three platforms and handles a modest set of trains — a mix of passenger, express and a few that originate or terminate here. It's on the Kurduvadi–Miraj line, which is a secondary line, so direct long-distance connectivity is limited compared with a big junction. If a direct train from your city exists, it's the most convenient option; if not, you'll route via Kurduvadi or Solapur.
Several cities do have direct trains to Pandharpur, though many run only on certain days — always check current schedules. Direct services connect Pandharpur with cities such as:
Mumbai (Dadar) — direct trains on select days
Bengaluru (Yesvantpur) and Mysuru — including the Gol Gumbaz Express
Nizamabad (Telangana)
Kolhapur, Miraj and Sangli
Nagpur and other Maharashtra routes
Sainagar Shirdi (SNSI) — a direct Shirdi–Pandharpur train on select days, popular with Yatris combining Sai Baba and Vitthal darshan
Because these run on limited days, book early — especially around Ekadashi.
Kurduvadi Junction (KWV) is about 52 km from Pandharpur and is the nearest big railway hub. It sits at the intersection of the Mumbai–Chennai line and the Latur–Miraj line, so a large number of long-distance trains pass through it.
The plan: take any convenient train to Kurduvadi, then cover the last 52 km to Pandharpur by a connecting train (frequent short-distance services run through the day, taking around 40–80 minutes), or by bus or taxi (about 45 minutes to an hour by road). This is the go-to route for most travellers from Mumbai, Pune and central India.
Solapur Junction (SUR), about 74 km away, is a major broad-gauge station with the widest connectivity — direct trains from Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Pune all stop here. If you're travelling from far away and can't find a direct Pandharpur train, Solapur is the reliable choice.
From Solapur, reach Pandharpur by MSRTC bus (they run roughly every 15 minutes) or a private taxi (around ₹1,000, about 1.5–2 hours). A few daily trains also connect Solapur and Pandharpur directly.
However you arrive — PVR, Kurduvadi or Solapur — here's the last leg:
At Pandharpur (PVR): the station is within the town; an auto or short taxi takes you to the temple area.
From Kurduvadi: connecting train, MSRTC bus, or taxi (~45–60 min).
From Solapur: bus every ~15 min, or a taxi (~1.5–2 hours).

From Kurduvadi Junction:
Combining with Shirdi darshan:
From Mumbai / Pune / central Maharashtra → look for a direct Pandharpur train first; otherwise route via Kurduvadi.
From Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru → travel to Solapur (best connected), then bus/taxi.
From the south (Karnataka) → direct Yesvantpur/Mysuru–Pandharpur trains are convenient.
Doing Shirdi + Pandharpur → check the direct Sainagar Shirdi–Pandharpur train (select days).
Pandharpur sees an enormous Yatri rush during the Ashadhi (June–July) and Kartiki (Oct–Nov) wari and Ekadashi. The Railways run special trains, but regular trains fill up weeks ahead and the town is extremely crowded. If you're travelling then, book your tickets as early as possible, and plan your stay and local transport in advance.
If you arrive late or want early-morning darshan, it helps to stay near the temple. Our Pandharpur to Tuljapur taxi guide covers that leg.
Reaching Pandharpur by train is easy once you know the map: try for a direct train to Pandharpur (PVR) first, and if there isn't one from your city, route through Kurduvadi (nearest major junction) or Solapur (best connected) and finish the short hop by bus or taxi. Book early if you're travelling around Ekadashi, and you'll be at Vitthal's doorstep before you know it. Jai Vitthal! Jai Hari! 🚩
