Akkalkot is a short 85 km hop from Pandharpur and home to the Shri Swami Samarth Maharaj Samadhi — one of the most revered Datta-tradition seats in India. Millions come every year for darshan of Swami Samarth (worshipped as the 20th-century avatar of Bhagwan Dattatreya). This guide covers the route, taxi fare, and a smart combined Pandharpur + Akkalkot itinerary.
Distance — ~85 km by road via Solapur
Drive time — 2 to 2.5 hours
Route — Pandharpur → Mangalvedha → Solapur → Akkalkot (NH-65 + SH-59)
Roads are in good condition. Solapur is the halfway pause point — many Yatris stop for tea and to break the journey.
Sedan (4+1) — around ₹2,500-3,500 one way, ₹4,500-6,000 round trip
Ertiga (6+1) — around ₹3,500-4,500 one way, ₹6,000-7,500 round trip
Innova (7+1) — around ₹4,500-5,500 one way, ₹7,500-9,000 round trip
Same round-trip logic as Tuljapur — booking round trip is only marginally more than one way because the driver's return leg is already priced in.
Bus — MSRTC Pandharpur → Akkalkot direct (~2.5 hours), or via Solapur (change bus).
Train — no useful direct train. Go Pandharpur → Solapur by train, then bus/taxi Solapur → Akkalkot (~40 km / 1 hour).
For families and elders, a private taxi is much more comfortable — direct, no changes, air-con.
Swami Samarth of Akkalkot (also called Akkalkot Swami) is one of the four principal Datta-avatars along with Shri Narasimha Saraswati and Manik Prabhu. He arrived in Akkalkot in the mid-1800s and stayed until his mahasamadhi in 1878. The samadhi mandir sits on the grounds of the Vata Vruksha Mandir — the banyan tree under which Swami used to bless devotees is still there.
Darshan timings — 4:00 AM to 10:00 PM (approximate, varies during utsavs)
Guru Purnima — the biggest annual gathering; lakhs attend
Datta Jayanti (Margashirsh Purnima) — another peak
Prasad — mahaprasad at the mandir bhojan hall
Overnight in Pandharpur — do Pandharpur darshan on day 1, drive to Akkalkot on day 2 (85 km / 2 hrs), late afternoon darshan, return to Pandharpur or continue to Tuljapur
Overnight in Akkalkot — if you want early morning + evening darshan; Akkalkot has yatri accommodations near the mandir
Base in Solapur — central for both if you're doing a 3-4 day multi-city circuit
