Most pilgrims plan their Shirdi trip around weekends or school holidays. The result: 4-hour queues, sold-out lodges, room rates 30–40% higher than normal. Here is what actually happens, day by day, so you can pick the right time:
Tuesday – Wednesday
Lowest crowd. Darshan in 30–60 minutes. Hotel rates normal. If your dates are flexible, these are the two best days — especially if you are travelling with elderly family.
Friday
Quiet in the morning, crowds build through the afternoon as weekend visitors arrive. Darshan takes 1–1.5 hours. Reach Shirdi Friday morning and leave Saturday morning for a peaceful trip.
Monday
Weekend crowds are thinning. Afternoon becomes comfortable. Darshan takes 1–2 hours.
Thursday — busiest day
Sai Baba's holiest day. Darshan 3–4 hours, sometimes more. Hotel rates 30–40% higher. If your devotion ties you to Thursday, absolutely go — but book 2–3 weeks ahead, travel solo or as a couple, and skip this day if elderly are joining you.
Saturday – Sunday
Weekend visitors from across Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Telangana. Darshan 2.5–3 hours. Hotels fully booked. You'll need to book 3–4 days ahead at minimum.
Month by month
- July – August (Guru Purnima) — heaviest crowds of the year.
- October (Vijayadashami / Mahasamadhi day) — very heavy.
- March – April (around Ram Navami) — heavy.
- November – February — best weather, lowest crowds.
- May – June — hot, but crowds are light.
Best months overall
November to February — pleasant weather, lighter crowds, comfortable yatra.
One thing to remember — visiting during festivals is not wrong. But if this is your first trip or you are travelling with a big family, pick a normal day. Baba is there every day.
