Pandharpur sits roughly 75 km northwest of Solapur, reachable by road, MSRTC bus or direct train in under two hours each way. Since it sits well apart from both Akkalkot and Tuljapur, most Yatris treat it as its own day trip. This guide covers every practical way to get there, plus a realistic one-day plan for the darshan.
Here's how the three main options stack up before you pick one.
| Mode | Time | Frequency | Cost tier |
|---|---|---|---|
| Car / taxi | ~1.5–2 hrs | Anytime | ₹₹–₹₹₹ |
| MSRTC bus | ~1.5–2 hrs | Roughly every 20–30 min | ₹ (fares start near ₹80–90) |
| Train (direct) | ~1h50m–2h15m | 2 direct services daily, more via Kurduwadi | ₹ |
By road, you leave Solapur on the Pune highway and turn onto NH965, a spur route through Mohol town, about 30 km out. From Mohol the road continues northwest to Pandharpur. Total distance is quoted between 72 and 77 km depending on the exact route.
A private taxi or self-drive car covers it in roughly 1.5 to 2 hours. Expect the last few kilometres to slow down on Ekadashi and other festival dates, when parking near the temple fills up fast. Outside peak days, it's an easy half-day drive with time left for darshan and the ghats.
State buses on this route are frequent and start early. The first bus leaves around 2:30am and the last one around 8:30–8:40pm, with departures all day from Solapur's Central Bus Stand. Ordinary fares start near ₹80–90 one-way, and seats are usually available without booking.
Journey time runs about 1.5 to 2 hours depending on how many villages the bus stops at. This is the budget option most local Yatris use, with no reservation needed for a same-day trip. On Ekadashi, arrive with some buffer since crowds push up boarding times.
Two trains run direct between Solapur and Pandharpur most days, covering the run in under two and a quarter hours — the Gol Gumbaz Express is one of them. If you're arriving from another direction, Kurduwadi Junction, about 50 km from Pandharpur, is the key interchange where the Mumbai–Chennai mainline meets the Latur Road–Miraj line.
From Kurduwadi, passenger trains to Pandharpur cover roughly 52 km in about 40 minutes, with several services through the day. Unreserved second class is cheap, but seating is first-come. This suits travellers without heavy luggage more than families with young children or elders.
Short answer: not comfortably. Akkalkot to Pandharpur is close to 96 km, and Tuljapur to Pandharpur runs 100 km or more, on top of whatever you've already driven that day.
We've covered the Akkalkot & Tuljapur one-day circuit and Tuljapur darshan timings from Solapur separately, and both work well as a single day on their own. Pandharpur, being in almost the opposite direction from Solapur, is best planned as its own out-and-back day rather than a third stop bolted onto that route.
A simple day plan that leaves room for darshan without rushing:
5:30am — Depart Solapur by road or catch an early MSRTC bus from the Central Bus Stand.
7:00–7:30am — Arrive Pandharpur; freshen up near the ghats before joining the darshan queue.
8:00am–12:00pm — Vitthal Rukmini Mandir darshan (timing varies with the day's crowd).
12:30–1:30pm — Lunch near the temple, then a short walk along the Chandrabhaga ghat.
2:00–3:00pm — Visit one or two nearby sights if time allows.
3:30–4:00pm — Start back towards Solapur by road, bus or the afternoon train.
5:30–6:00pm — Arrive back in Solapur before dinner.
Pick based on how you're travelling, not just the cheapest ticket:
Day-trip only, no other stops: a private taxi is easiest — no bus-stand wait, no fixed train timing, and you control the return hour.
Combining with the full Akkalkot-Tuljapur circuit: don't. Give Pandharpur its own day; see the Akkalkot & Tuljapur circuit guide for that route instead.
On a budget: the MSRTC bus is cheapest and runs often enough that you rarely need to plan around a fixed departure.
Travelling with elders or young children: avoid the unreserved train; a taxi or an early bus with a seat is far more comfortable for a same-day return.
For most Yatris, Pandharpur from Solapur is realistically a day trip — leave early and you're home by evening, no overnight needed. If you'd rather split it into two unhurried days, Pandharpur does have stay options; see our where to stay in Pandharpur guide for areas near the temple.
Pandharpur is an easy, well-connected day trip from Solapur once you know which mode fits your day. Jai Vitthal.
