We call him “Saibaba.” But did you know — that wasn’t his real name? And the moment the name was given was almost an accident. Very few people know the real story. 🚩
🛕 That moment
It was around 1858. Chand Patil’s wedding procession reached Shirdi.
Ya Sai! — Welcome, Sai!
— Mhalsapati, greeting the young fakir at the Khandoba temple
🙏 And the name stuck
“Sai” — meaning a saint, a holy soul. Mhalsapati said it with reverence. From that day on, the rest of the village began calling him “Sai” too. Slowly it became “Saibaba” — and that is the name now on the lips of crores of devotees.
✨ Think about it
The name worshipped across the world today was not chosen by anyone deliberately. It rose, simply and naturally, from one devotee’s love and respect.
Perhaps this is Baba’s leela itself — in the most ordinary moments, the most extraordinary things lie hidden. The same Baba whose name began here also left eleven assurances at the samadhi — the ones crores of devotees still read before darshan.

🙏 Om Sai Ram.
