Khatu Shyam's Falgun Lakkhi Mela 2027 peaks on Thursday 18 March 2027, Phalguna Shukla Ekadashi, four days before Holi. From Jaipur it is about 85 km and two hours on a normal day.
In mela week the town is a no-vehicle zone and the last stretch is on foot. Here is what the 2026 mela taught about dates, hours, parking and the queue.
The fixed point is the tithi. Phalguna Shukla Ekadashi falls on Thursday 18 March 2027, Dwadashi on Friday 19 March, Holika Dahan on Sunday 21 March and Holi on Monday 22 March. The Shree Shyam Mandir Committee and the Sikar administration announce the mela window closer to the date.
Recent years show the pattern:
| Year | Mela window | Days | Ekadashi |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2025 | Fri 28 Feb – Tue 11 Mar | 12 | Mon 10 Mar |
| 2026 | Sat 21 Feb – Sat 28 Feb | 8 | Fri 27 Feb |
| 2027 (expected) | around Fri 12 Mar – Fri 19 Mar | 8 | Thu 18 Mar |
If 2027 follows the 2026 eight-day format, the fair opens on Shukla Panchami, about Friday 12 March, and closes on Dwadashi with the Surajgarh nishan. Treat that as a working estimate until the committee confirms. The 2026 fair expected 35 lakh Yatris and recorded over 15 lakh, with 3,53,465 on Ekadashi alone.
In mela week the temple runs round the clock; in 2026 the committee advertised 192 hours of continuous darshan over the eight days. There is no online slot or token booking, and VIP darshan is suspended for the whole fair, as it was in 2025 and 2026.
What applied in 2026 and is expected again:
14 queue lines through Lakhdatar ground, with a foot-over bridge at the 75 Feet ground
Nishan no taller than 8 feet, cloth on bamboo, no iron rod; taller flags are turned back
No DJs, no glass perfume bottles, no thorny roses in the mela area
Mobiles, cameras and bags stay in lockers outside the sanctum
Over 5,000 police, drones and CCTV; the Shyam Sarathi app showed live parking and darshan waits
Outside mela week the winter board reads 5:30 am–1 pm and 5–9 pm. The 16-line queue system dates from the August 2022 Ekadashi stampede that killed three women, which is why barricade discipline is strict.
The road is NH52 through Chomu to Ringas, then the Khatu road: 80–95 km depending on your start point, about two hours when clear. On mela days the Ringas end slows to a crawl from about 6 am as buses and padyatris converge.
Leave by 3 am. You reach the parking lots before the morning surge and join the lines when they are shortest.
One-way sedan fares from Jaipur start around ₹2,500 including tolls; a day return is the sensible booking because the car waits.
RSRTC buses from Sindhi Camp cost about ₹106 and take 2 hours 10 minutes, about four a day, boarding at Khatu's Toran Gate; in mela week they terminate at the bus parking.
In 2025 cars entered the parking zone from NH52 at Manda and the 52-bigha lot exited via Shahupura; expect a similar plan. Bus Yatris were routed to the Kisan Gaushala lot.
Our evergreen Khatu Shyam and Salasar Balaji from Jaipur guide covers the two-temple version for a normal weekend.
Ringas Junction is 54 km from Jaipur, about an hour by train. Useful daytime options: the 14710 at 1:05 pm arriving 2:07 pm, the 14702 Aravali Express at 6 pm arriving 7:08 pm, and the 74836 DEMU at 7:35 pm. The Ringas–Khatu branch line is sanctioned but not running; land acquisition is still under way.
From Ringas most mela Yatris walk. The nishan padyatra is about 17 km, barefoot for many, saffron flag on a bamboo pole, with bhandaras and rest camps along the closed road. Allow four to five hours, start before dawn, and offer the flag at the temple on arrival.
With elderly parents: go in the week before the mela, or on Dwadashi evening when the lines have thinned. Skip Ekadashi itself; the 1.5 km walk plus hours of standing is too much.
On a budget: RSRTC bus to the parking lot, ₹25 e-rickshaw, dharamshala bed from about ₹340 near the temple.
On a tight schedule: taxi at 3 am on Dashami or Dwadashi, darshan by late morning, back in Jaipur by evening.
For the full experience: train to Ringas on Dashami, walk the nishan yatra, darshan overnight into Ekadashi.
Avoid arriving at the parking lots after 8 am on Ekadashi. In 2026 the count on the 75 Feet road crossed 4 lakh by the third evening, and late arrivals spent the day in the lines.
Khatu's dharamshalas start around ₹340 a bed, with Surat Bhawan and similar at about ₹1,200 a room; hotels in town run ₹4,500 and up and sell out weeks before Ekadashi. For most Jaipur Yatris a 3 am taxi beats a mela-week room. If you want to sleep near the temple, book by January.
Fix the date, leave Jaipur in the dark, and let the e-rickshaw and your own feet do the rest. Jai Shree Shyam.
