Maha Shivratri 2027 falls on Saturday, 6 March, at Trimbakeshwar — one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and Shiva's biggest night here. Darshan hours stretch far beyond normal, the town closes to cars, and the queue behaves nothing like a regular day. This guide covers the date, the puja window, road closures, and planning without losing the day.
Every major panchang source agrees: Maha Shivratri 2027 falls on Saturday, 6 March. The festival is fixed by Chaturdashi Tithi at Nishita Kaal (Hindu midnight), not sunrise, which is why the date can shift against the regular calendar.
For 2027, Krishna Paksha Chaturdashi begins the afternoon of 5 March and runs into the early hours of 7 March, with Nishita Kaal around 12:07–12:56 AM on the night of 6–7 March. These figures come from standard panchang calculation and can vary by a few minutes by location.
Trimbakeshwar Devasthan Trust usually confirms its own festival-day programme — gate timing, abhishek slots, queue changes — closer to the date. Check trimbakeshwartrust.com in the weeks before 6 March 2027 rather than relying on a generic panchang.
Shivratri is traditionally worshipped across four praharas (watches) of the night, with rituals continuing well past midnight — the Nishita Kaal window itself is considered the single most powerful moment for abhishek.
At a Jyotirlinga like Trimbakeshwar, the trust runs the overnight sanctum rituals separately from the public darshan queue. Yatris in the general line are not timed to the exact Nishita Kaal moment — the queue simply keeps moving at its own pace through the night.
If the midnight abhishek specifically matters to you, check the trust's site closer to the date. See also our Kartik Purnima at Trimbakeshwar and Shravan Somvar at Trimbakeshwar guides for how this temple handles other big-crowd nights.
Trimbakeshwar town becomes a different place on Shivratri. At the most recent one, private vehicles were barred from entering the town, redirected to an outdoor parking area at Khambale on the outskirts, to keep the Nashik–Trimbakeshwar road from locking up completely.
This pattern repeats around most major Trimbakeshwar festivals, so expect a similar closure in 2027, confirmed closer to the date. Budget extra time for the walk from parking, and carry water and comfortable footwear.
The gap between an ordinary day and Shivratri is enormous. General darshan normally runs 5:30 AM to 9:00 PM; on Shravan Mondays the queue routinely stretches to six to eight hours. Shivratri multiplies that further.
| Day | Darshan Window | Typical Queue Wait |
|---|---|---|
| Normal weekday | 5:30 AM – 9:00 PM | Short |
| Shravan Monday | 5:30 AM – 9:00 PM | 6–8 hours (verified pattern) |
| Maha Shivratri | ~41 hours non-stop (last year's pattern) | Several hours, on a 24-hour moving queue |
At the last Shivratri, the temple stayed open continuously for about 41 hours — Sunday morning through Monday night — with the main dharma-darshan queue running 24 hours from the east gate, and donation darshan closed entirely.
On a normal day, Trimbakeshwar offers a ₹200 VIP darshan pass (booked only via trimbakeshwartrust.com), with an entry-to-exit time of around 30–45 minutes, plus a newer ₹2,500 Break Darshan pass for faster, hourly access.
None of this applies on Shivratri. At the most recent festival, the trust suspended VIP, sanctum-entry and donation darshan for three days around it, so every Yatri used the same general queue. Plan around the queue, not a paid pass — see our Trimbakeshwar Darshan Guide for how the pass works normally.
Shivratri 2027 falls in an unusually significant period: the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Simhastha Kumbh Mela, which began 31 October 2026. The Kumbh's main Shahi Snan dates are later, in August–September 2027, so Shivratri sits in the Mela's earlier phase, not a peak bathing day.
Even so, expect Kumbh-related infrastructure, security and traffic measures already in place around Trimbakeshwar by March 2027, on top of usual Shivratri arrangements — watch the trust's channels closer to the date. If your plan also covers Maharashtra's other Jyotirlinga, see our Maha Shivratri at Bhimashankar guide.
Shivratri at Trimbakeshwar is not a one-size-fits-all visit. Match your plan to your situation instead of copying someone else's itinerary.
With elders or young children: Avoid the overnight window; an early-morning slot is far more manageable than hours standing after midnight.
On a budget: Public transport works, but the Khambale parking walk applies to everyone regardless of how you arrive.
On a tight schedule: Avoid a same-day round trip from a distant city — road closures and the long queue can wreck a tight return.
First-timers: Arrive a day early so the walk-in, queue and pooja aren't compressed into one tiring night.

Trimbakeshwar's limited rooms fill up well before a festival this size, so book early rather than hoping for a vacancy on arrival. Options range from the trust's own Bhakt Niwas guesthouses near the temple to private hotels in town, plus a wider spread of stays in Nashik city if Trimbakeshwar is full.
Staying in Nashik gives more choice but adds travel time on a day when the roads in are already restricted — factor that in if you plan to be in the queue before dawn.
Maha Shivratri 2027 at Trimbakeshwar rewards those who plan the date, the queue and the parking in advance, leaving the darshan itself as the only thing to focus on. Har Har Mahadev.
