Nashik draws from the Ramayana — Panchavati is where Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana lived during their exile, and Lakshmana is said to have cut off the nose ("nashika") of Shurpanakha here, giving the city its name. Kalaram Mandir (built 1794) houses a rare black-stone Rama idol; alongside Trimbakeshwar (one of 12 Jyotirlingas, 28 km west) and Ramkund (sacred bathing ghat), it anchors one of Maharashtra's most-visited pilgrim circuits. The Sinhastha Kumbh Mela lands here every 12 years — 2027 is the next one.
