Aundha Nagnath opens at 5 am and the last aarti is at 7 pm, so a day trip from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar works only if you leave by half past five. The temple is about 210 km east in Hingoli district, 4.5–5 hours by car. Below: the official timetable, both roads, trains and an hour-by-hour plan.
The two Sansthan-linked sites differ by half an hour. The timetable page on shriaundhanagnath.org says the temple opens at 5:00 am; the sister booking site says 5:30 am. Both agree on a 10 pm close.
| Event | Time (Sansthan timetable) |
|---|---|
| Temple opens | 5:00 am |
| Mangala (kakad) aarti | 5:30 am |
| Rudrabhishek slots | 6:00 am, 8:00 am, 10:00 am, 4:00 pm |
| Madhyan aarti | 12:30 pm |
| Sandhya aarti | 7:00 pm |
| Temple closes | 10:00 pm |
Older blogs quoting a 4 am opening or a 9 pm close are out of date. Timings stretch on Shravan Mondays and Mahashivratri. The Sansthan FAQ says abhishek bookings are handled by a private purohit, not the trust.
The shorter route runs east through Jalna, Mantha and Jintur — about 210 km, close to the 204 km Maharashtra Tourism quotes from the airport. Budget 4.5–5 hours; Mantha–Jintur is two-lane and slow after dark.
The longer way follows the highway to Parbhani, then NH 361 north for about 50 km. It is nearer 260 km but almost all divided road, better for a night return.
| Route | Distance | Drive time | Road |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jalna – Mantha – Jintur – Aundha | ~210 km | 4.5–5 hrs | Two-lane state highway after Jalna |
| Jalna – Parbhani – NH 361 – Aundha | ~260 km | 5–5.5 hrs | Mostly divided highway |
Our route guide via Jalna breaks the Jintur road into legs.
No train reaches Aundha itself. The useful stations are Hingoli Deccan (HNL), 25 km away, and Parbhani Junction (PBN), about 50 km. Chondi (CWI), 21 km, is a halt with no long-distance stops.
12071 Jan Shatabdi: Sambhajinagar (CPSN) 18:30, Parbhani 21:33, Hingoli Deccan 00:30. Sleep in Hingoli for the 5:30 am aarti.
12072 return: Hingoli 04:15, Parbhani 06:08, Sambhajinagar 09:35.
17617 Tapovan Express: Sambhajinagar 13:10, Parbhani 16:18, then a bus or taxi for 50 km.
Assumes the Jintur road, a taxi and a weekday outside Shravan.
5:30 am — leave Sambhajinagar; tea at Jalna by 6:45.
8:30 am — Jintur; breakfast before the last 40 km.
10:00–10:30 am — Aundha; shoes, phone and bag into the locker; join the queue.
11:00–11:45 am — darshan; weekday waits are reported at 20–40 minutes.
12:30 pm — Madhyan aarti from the sabhamandap if you can spare the hour.
1:30 pm — lunch in Aundha town, then start back.
6:30–7:00 pm — Sambhajinagar, before Mantha–Jintur is unlit.
If the Mangala aarti matters more than the drive, sleep in Hingoli and be at the gate for 5:30 am.
The Jyotirlinga is below floor level. From the hall you step through a low opening, down two or three steep steps, into a chamber visitors measure at 3 to 3.5 feet high. You sit or bend double.
Volunteers let in three to six people at a time and help you up on the way out. Yatris with knee or back trouble take darshan from the sabhamandap above.
Phones and cameras stay in the lockers; photography inside is prohibited.
Men generally remove the shirt only for abhishek with a pujari; for queue darshan, modest clothing is enough.
Abhishek and touching the linga happen with a pujari. Settle the dakshina first.
Bags do not fit through the passage.
Weekday mornings are quiet. The days that are not:
Mahashivratri, Saturday 6 March 2027 — the biggest day; visitors report four- to six-hour queues, and the rath procession runs that night.
Shravan Mondays 2027 (amanta calendar): 9, 16, 23 and 30 August. Kavad Yatris walk in from across Marathwada.
Kartik Somvars 2026: 16, 23, 30 November and 7 December; Kartik Purnima is Tuesday 24 November.
If Grishneshwar is in the same week, its darshan timings follow a similar aarti rhythm.
Parli is 118 km south of Aundha, around 2.5 hours with one rough stretch. From Sambhajinagar, both in one day means 500-plus km and two queues; it works by taxi only with a 5 am start and no Madhyan aarti.
The sane version is two days: Aundha on day one, sleep in Parli or Parbhani, Parli at opening on day two. Our Parli Vaijnath timings and VIP-pass guide covers that morning.
With elders: taxi on the Jintur road, leave 5:30 am; darshan from the sabhamandap if knees object. Avoid the Jan Shatabdi's 00:30 arrival.
On a budget: 12071 to Hingoli, a lodge there, a morning bus for the 25 km. Avoid private sleepers that drop you in Aundha after midnight.
On a tight schedule: taxi both ways, Aundha by 10 am, skip the Madhyan aarti, back by 7 pm.
Avoid: Shravan Mondays and Mahashivratri unless the crowd is the point, and Mantha–Jintur after dark.
Aundha has basic lodges and a few Sansthan rooms; most Yatris sleep in Hingoli (25 km) or Parbhani (50 km). For a day trip, a Sambhajinagar room on the Jalna road saves half an hour at dawn.
Leave early, keep the phone in the locker, and let the volunteers take your hand on the steps back up. Har Har Mahadev.
