Guru Purnima is one of the three biggest festivals at Shirdi, and in 2026 it falls on Wednesday, 29 July. On this day, lakhs of devotees reach the Sai Baba Samadhi Mandir. If you’re planning to visit this Guru Purnima, this guide walks you through the whole plan — from the date to darshan, the crowds, and where to stay.
📅
The main date
Wednesday, 29 July 2026. The Sansthan utsav usually runs ~3 days around this — 28 to 30 July sees the heaviest crowds.
🛕
One of Shirdi's three big utsavs
Ram Navami, Guru Purnima, Vijayadashami (Punyatithi). For many devotees Guru Purnima is the most emotional of the three.
Baba's abhishek + special puja, akhand parayan of the Satcharitra in Dwarkamai, the Sai palkhi, mahaprasad and group bhajans.
📅 When is Guru Purnima 2026?
This year Guru Purnima is on Wednesday, 29 July 2026. The Purnima tithi begins on the evening of 28 July and runs to the evening of 29 July. The Shirdi Sansthan utsav usually spans about three days around the main day, so crowds are heaviest between 28 and 30 July. For the exact yearly schedule see the Sansthan’s official site sai.org.in.
🛕 Why Guru Purnima matters at Shirdi
Guru Purnima is the day of gratitude to the guru. Its roots at Shirdi go back to Baba’s own lifetime — devotees first performed Baba’s Vyas Puja, and that same tradition has grown into a major utsav today. The Sansthan celebrates three big festivals each year: Ram Navami, Guru Purnima, and Vijayadashami (Punyatithi). Of these, Guru Purnima is widely considered one of the most emotional days for devotees.
🌅 What happens during the utsav?
On these days the Samadhi Mandir stays open till late and the whole of Shirdi is immersed in bhakti. Main events include:
Baba’s abhishek and a special puja
Akhand parayan of the Shri Sai Satcharitra in Dwarkamai
The Sai Baba palkhi (palanquin)
Mahaprasad and group bhajans
👥 How crowded does it get, and when to go?
Even on regular days Shirdi sees thousands of devotees, but during the utsav this number climbs to lakhs. If you want a calmer darshan with your family, try arriving a day or two before or after the main date (29 July). Morning Kakad Aarti tends to have a relatively orderly queue. Travelling with elderly members? Plan around the harsh afternoon sun and long lines both.
🎟️ Darshan and aarti — what to prep
Book darshan and aarti passes from the Sansthan’s site online.sai.org.in in advance — Aadhaar is required. Step-by-step walkthrough with the current pass prices is here: Shirdi aarti pass booking guide. Senior citizens and divyang devotees can enter via Gate No. 7. Festival queues are long, so carry light luggage, keep water with you, and remember the designated footwear spot.
🏨 Where to stay in Shirdi
On festival days the hotels closest to the temple fill up first — so book the moment your dates are firm. Aim to stay within walking distance of the temple, so you don’t have to fight the festival traffic to-and-fro for every aarti and meal. TripSaffron has verified hotels in Shirdi — real photos, real distance, and no hidden charges. Marathi and Hindi speakers welcome.
Aadhaar (for the darshan pass), water bottle, light cotton clothing, a small bag for prasad/udi, and your hotel confirmation screenshot.
