Trimbakeshwar, Bhimashankar and Grishneshwar are three of Maharashtra's five Jyotirlingas, and Nashik is the best place to start a road loop that covers all three. Driven in the right order, it takes 3 days and 2 nights, never repeats a road, and picks up Shirdi, Shani Shingnapur and Ellora on the way.
This guide lays the loop out day by day — distances, darshan windows, the one registration to finish before you leave, and the start day that quietly breaks the plan.
The loop works because each day ends where the next temple is closest. The first night is at Bhimashankar, so its forest ghat road is driven once, in daylight. The second is at Shirdi, which has far more rooms than Verul.
| Day | Route | Approx. distance | What you cover |
|---|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | Nashik → Trimbakeshwar → Bhimashankar | ~240 km | Trimbakeshwar darshan, Kushavarta Kund, evening darshan at Bhimashankar |
| Day 2 | Bhimashankar → Shani Shingnapur → Shirdi | ~280 km | Optional dawn darshan, Shani Shingnapur, Sai Baba's sunset aarti |
| Day 3 | Shirdi → Grishneshwar → Ellora → Nashik | ~290 km | Grishneshwar darshan, Ellora caves, Panchavati at dusk |
Distances are road estimates and shift a little with the exact route. Budget 5 to 6 hours of driving each day, plus darshan time.
The Day 1 drive is the same road covered in our Nashik to Bhimashankar route guide — Sinnar, Sangamner, then the Manchar turn-off into the hills.
Each temple keeps its own hours, and the loop is timed around them rather than around the road.
Trimbakeshwar: open roughly 5:30 AM to 9 PM. Before 7 AM the general queue is at its shortest of the day.
Bhimashankar: Kakad Aarti opens the day around 4:30 AM, and the evening aarti is near 7:30 PM. Darshan is by registered slot — see our Bhimashankar darshan timings guide.
Grishneshwar: darshan runs about 5:30 AM to 12 noon, then 4 PM to 9:30 PM. Men remove their shirts before entering the sanctum.
Shirdi: four aartis a day. This loop lands on the Dhoop Aarti at sunset.
Grishneshwar's midday gap is why Day 3 reaches it by 8:30 AM. Arrive at noon and you either wait four hours or skip it. Grishneshwar's full aarti schedule is here.
All four temples stretch their hours in Shravan and on Mahashivratri — and the queues stretch with them.
Ellora Caves, a few minutes from Grishneshwar, are closed every Tuesday. On this loop Ellora falls on Day 3, so a trip that starts on a Sunday reaches it on the one day it is shut.
Best start days: Monday to Thursday. Ellora is open on Day 3, and Day 2 avoids Saturday, Shani Shingnapur's busiest day.
Starting on a Sunday anyway? Swap Ellora for Bhadra Maruti at Khuldabad, a short drive from Grishneshwar.
Ellora hours: about 9 AM to 5:30 PM, last entry at 5 PM. Entry is ₹40 for Indian visitors, and children under 15 go free.
Shani Shingnapur sits on the Bhimashankar–Shirdi road, so it costs almost no extra driving. The shrine is an open-air black stone with no roof, in a village known for houses without doors. An hour is enough outside Saturdays and Amavasya.
Shirdi is the Day 2 night halt. Reaching it by mid-afternoon leaves time for Samadhi Mandir darshan, then Dwarkamai, Chavadi and Gurusthan in the same complex, before the sunset aarti.
The loop ends where Nashik's own pilgrimage begins. Ramkund on the Godavari, Kapaleshwar Mahadev on the steps above it, the Kalaram Temple and Sita Gufa are all a short walk apart — a fitting last hour before the drop.

Register for Bhimashankar on shreebhimashankar.com and pick a Day 1 evening slot.
Book both nights early — Bhimashankar first. It has few rooms and no temple trust guesthouse.
Dress modestly. Shorts and sleeveless tops are discouraged at Bhimashankar, and men go shirtless inside Grishneshwar's sanctum.
Wear easy footwear. The Bhimashankar steps and Ellora's rock floors are the only real walking on the loop.
Keep some cash for parking, footwear counters and the Ellora ticket.
Two nights, two very different towns. Bhimashankar has only a handful of private stays near the temple and no trust bhaktniwas, so book it first, especially for weekends and Shravan.
Shirdi has plenty of rooms at every budget. Staying close to the Samadhi Mandir makes the sunset aarti and an early start for Grishneshwar easy.
