Yes, Saptashrungi is a comfortable same-day return from Nashik. Leave by 6:00 am, take darshan before the mid-morning rush, and you are back in the city by about 1:30 pm — roughly seven and a half hours door to door, on a round trip of about 130 km.
This plan gives every hour of that day: when to leave, where the minutes go on the hill, where to eat and what changes on a crowded day.
The times below are for a normal weekday with a 6:00 am start from central Nashik. Every stop is approximate, so treat it as a rhythm, not a railway timetable.
| Time | What happens |
|---|---|
| 6:00 am | Leave Nashik |
| 6:40 am | Pass Dindori |
| 7:10 am | Vani — 15-minute tea stop |
| 7:45 am | Nanduri, the ghat climb begins |
| 8:15 am | Parking on top of the gad |
| 8:45 am | In the darshan queue |
| 10:15 am | Back down, breakfast on the gad |
| 11:15 am | Start the drive back |
| 1:30 pm | Home in Nashik |
The road runs north from Nashik through Dindori and Vani to Nanduri, the village at the foot of the hill. That is about 52 km and the easy part of the morning.
From Nanduri a ghat road of roughly 10 km climbs to the village on top. The plain below drops away quickly, so anyone prone to motion sickness should eat light before leaving.
Tea stop: Vani is the last proper town, so break here, not on the ghat.
Fuel: fill up in Nashik or Dindori; do not count on a pump on the hill.
Parking: cars stop in the parking area of the top village, with a fee reported at around ₹50.
From the parking it is a short walk past the pooja-thali stalls to the trolley station and the foot of the steps. Pick your way up here.
Funicular trolley: about a 3-minute ride, with a ticket of around ₹90 return for adults. It runs from about 6 am to 9:30 pm.
The steps: about 510 of them, covered against sun and rain. A fit adult takes 20–30 minutes with pauses.
Both: ride up fresh for darshan, then walk down. Most families do this.
On a quiet weekday the darshan line itself is often 20–40 minutes. The Devi's eighteen-armed image is carved into the rock face, so the queue moves past it steadily rather than stopping.
Fares, concessions and the separate special-entry pass are laid out in our ropeway fare and VIP darshan guide.
Eat on the gad, because the next proper meal is back in Vani or Dindori. You have two simple choices.
Trust dining hall: the temple trust serves a plain prasad meal for a small charge. Timings shift, so ask at the trust office when you come down.
Stalls near the parking: misal, poha, vada pav and tea, quick and hot.
Carry a water bottle and a few dry snacks from Nashik for children and elders. The hilltop is windy and noticeably cooler than the city in the early morning, so a light layer helps from November to February.
A plain darshan fits any hour between 6:00 am and 9:30 pm. If you want to stand in a particular aarti, move the whole day around it.
| You want | Leave Nashik | Back in Nashik |
|---|---|---|
| Panchamrit Mahapuja, about 7–8 am | 4:15 am | about 11:30 am |
| Plain morning darshan | 6:00 am | about 1:30 pm |
| Mahanaivedya aarti, about 12–1 pm | 9:00 am | about 5:00 pm |
| Sandhya aarti, about 7–8 pm | 3:30 pm | about 11:00 pm |
The evening plan means driving the ghat and the Vani road after dark. It is done every day, but it is the least restful of the four. The full daily schedule is in our Saptashrungi temple timings post.
The plan above assumes an ordinary weekday. Some days simply take longer.
Tuesdays, Fridays and Purnima: the Devi's own days. Expect a longer trolley line and darshan queue; leave by 5:00 am.
Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays: the parking fills by mid-morning. Reach the top before 8:00 am.
Navratri, 11–20 October 2026: the biggest crowd of the year. Private vehicles have been stopped at Nanduri during past festivals, with ST buses running the ghat — ask before you set out.
For the festival days, read our Saptashrungi Navratri 2026 guide before fixing a date.
With elders or small children: the 6:00 am weekday plan, trolley both ways. The morning is cool and the lines are shortest.
On a tight schedule: leave at 5:30 am, skip the Vani stop on the way up and eat on the way back. You can be home by 12:30 pm.
For a specific pooja: book it with the trust first, then set the leaving time from the table above.
Late risers: the 9:00 am plan works, but only on a weekday.
What to avoid: starting after 10:00 am on a weekend. You climb the ghat with the day's heaviest traffic, queue in the midday sun and drive home tired after dark.

Stay in Nashik. The whole point of this plan is that you sleep in the city, leave before the traffic and return for a late lunch. A room near CBS, Panchavati or the Dindori Road side saves 15–20 minutes at 6 am.
The top village has simple bhakta niwas rooms and lodges, useful only if you want the first aarti without a pre-dawn drive. For areas and budgets, see where to stay in Nashik.
Start early, eat on the hill, and let the Devi's gad set the pace of the day. Jai Saptashrungi Mata.
