The three Maharashtra Jyotirlingas on the Nashik loop — Trimbakeshwar, Bhimashankar and Grishneshwar — are open all year. What changes month to month is the road, the weather at Bhimashankar and, above all, the crowd.
For most families, October to February is the best window. This guide explains why, which festival days to plan around, and what the 2027 Simhastha Kumbh in Nashik does to the whole circuit.
| Months | Weather | Crowd | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| October–February | Cool, dry, clear ghat roads | Moderate, busy on festival days | Best time |
| March–May | Hot afternoons on the plateau, especially at Ellora and Verul | Lower, except Mahashivratri | Fine with early starts |
| June–September | Heavy rain, fog on the Bhimashankar ghat | Very high in Shravan | Only if you want the monsoon — or Shravan itself |
The loop is about 825 km over 3 days, and one day ends on a forest ghat road. That is why weather matters more here than on a single-temple trip.
From June to September the Sahyadris around Bhimashankar turn green, and the forest drive is the most scenic stretch of the loop. The trade-off is time: wet ghat roads are driven slowly, and fog often thickens by evening.
Shravan is the holiest month for Shiva temples, and all three Jyotirlingas fill up. In Maharashtra, the Shravan Mondays of 2027 fall on 9, 16, 23 and 30 August. On those days the general queue at Bhimashankar can run past three hours.
If Shravan is the reason you are going, go — but book both nights early and register your Bhimashankar slot on shreebhimashankar.com as soon as the date is fixed. More on the monsoon side of that temple is in our best time to visit Bhimashankar guide.
These are the dates when queues at least double. Either plan the trip around them, or plan for them.
Mahashivratri — Saturday, 6 March 2027. All three Jyotirlingas stay open late and are at their most crowded. A Shivratri visit is special, but it is not a 3-day loop day.
Shravan Mondays — see above. Tuesday to Thursday in the same weeks are far calmer.
Saturdays and Amavasya at Shani Shingnapur. Saturday is Shani's day; on this loop Shani Shingnapur falls on Day 2.
Thursdays at Shirdi. Busier, but the Thursday evening palkhi procession is a highlight for many — on this loop that means starting on a Wednesday.
Nashik and Trimbakeshwar host the Simhastha Kumbh, held once every twelve years. The flag hoisting at Ramkund is on 31 October 2026, and the Kumbh period runs until July 2028.
The days that matter most for this loop are the three main Amrit Snan dates: 2 August, 31 August and 11 September 2027. On and around them, Trimbakeshwar and Panchavati draw enormous crowds and traffic is restricted.
Coming for the Kumbh? Build the loop around a snan date, with an extra night in Nashik.
Not coming for the Kumbh? Avoid August and early September 2027 entirely.

The season is only half the answer. The weekday you start decides which day lands where on the loop.
Monday or Tuesday starts are the calmest. Ellora is open on Day 3, Shani Shingnapur avoids Saturday, and Shirdi avoids Thursday.
Never start on a Sunday. Day 3 would fall on a Tuesday, when Ellora is closed.
Friday starts put Shani Shingnapur on a Saturday — its busiest day of the week.
The full day-by-day route is in our 3 Jyotirlinga tour from Nashik guide.
Winter (November–February): a light jacket or shawl. Bhimashankar mornings are cold, especially for a dawn darshan.
Monsoon (June–September): an umbrella, quick-dry clothes and footwear with grip for the wet Bhimashankar steps.
Summer (March–May): a cap, water and sunscreen for Ellora, where the rock courtyards hold the afternoon heat.
All year: modest clothes. Men should expect to remove their shirts inside Grishneshwar's sanctum.
The two night halts are Bhimashankar and Shirdi. Bhimashankar has only a handful of stays near the temple, and in Shravan, on Mahashivratri and on Kumbh weekends they are gone weeks ahead. Book it before anything else.
Shirdi has plenty of rooms, but Thursdays, weekends and festival days still sell out early. Outside those dates, a week's notice is usually enough.
Pick the season, then the weekday — and the three Jyotirlingas take care of the rest. Har Har Mahadev 🚩
