Mumbai to the Nashik–Trimbakeshwar Simhastha Kumbh 2027 is a 170 km, 2.5–3 hour drive on the Samruddhi Mahamarg. The three Amrit Snan days are 2 August, 31 August and 11–12 September 2027, and on those days no private car gets near Ramkund or Kushavarta.
The Simhastha opens with dhwajarohan on 31 October 2026 at Ramkund and Trimbakeshwar and runs until 24 July 2028. The Nagar Pradakshina in Nashik is on 29 July 2027, and the state now says Amrit Snan rather than Shahi Snan, a change agreed with the 13 akhadas.
Monday 2 August 2027 — first Amrit Snan, Ashadha Somvati Amavasya
Tuesday 31 August 2027 — second Amrit Snan, Shravan Amavasya, the most crowded day
Saturday 11 September 2027 — third Amrit Snan, Vaishnav akhadas at Ramkund, Nashik
Sunday 12 September 2027 — third Amrit Snan, Shaiva akhadas at Kushavarta, Trimbakeshwar
Shravan 2027 in Maharashtra runs 3–31 August, with Shravan Somvars on 9, 16, 23 and 30 August, so the whole month is busy, not just the snan days. Our Simhastha schedule post tracks the parva snan dates as they are published.
Join the Samruddhi Mahamarg at the Amane interchange near Bhiwandi and leave it at the Igatpuri or Nashik exit. It is access-controlled with a 120 km/h limit, and most families now do Mumbai to Nashik in 2.5–3 hours. FASTag is mandatory; the car toll runs to several hundred rupees each way.
The old NH-160 through Kasara ghat still works but takes 4–5 hours with Thane and Bhiwandi traffic. It is also the fragile one in the monsoon: a landslide on 7 July 2026 cut the ghat to a single lane. Keep it only as a fallback.
| Route from Mumbai | Distance | Normal time | Monsoon risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Samruddhi Mahamarg via Amane | ~170 km | 2.5–3 hrs | Low, access-controlled |
| NH-160 via Kasara ghat | ~170 km | 4–5 hrs | Landslides, single-lane closures |
| Train to Nashik Road + shuttle | 185 km rail | 3–3.5 hrs + shuttle | None on the line, crowded platforms |
Nashik to Trimbakeshwar is another 28–30 km, about 45–60 minutes on the Trimbak road on a normal day. Our Nashik to Trimbakeshwar guide covers that leg in detail.
Mumbai has a train every couple of hours to Nashik Road (NK), and Central Railway plans 150-plus Kumbh special trains for the Simhastha. Nashik Road is being rebuilt as a multimodal hub with a holding area and a mela control tower. Book regular trains 60 days out.
12109 Panchavati Express — CSMT 18:15, Nashik Road 21:32, daily
12110 Panchavati Express back — Nashik Road 07:03, CSMT 10:45, daily
17617 Tapovan Express — CSMT 05:30, Nashik Road about 08:50, daily
17612 Rajya Rani Express — CSMT 18:45, Nashik Road about 22:03, daily
MSRTC Shivshahi from Mumbai — about ₹400, 4–5 hours, many departures
From Nashik Road, Ramkund is about 10 km and Trimbakeshwar about 35–38 km. On snan days MSRTC shuttles are planned from Nashik Road, Deolali, Odha, Kherwadi and Kasbe Sukene stations to the ghats.
The Nashik–Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela Authority has a three-tier parking plan: 46 parking grounds over about 888 hectares in Nashik and 26 over about 671 hectares around Trimbakeshwar, with a target of roughly 3 lakh car-equivalent spaces. On the three Amrit Snan dates only the outer tiers open, and the inner city is private-vehicle-free.
| Tier | What it is | Who gets in on snan days |
|---|---|---|
| Outer | Highway-side grounds 5+ km out | All private cars and buses |
| Outer-1 | Mid-ring lots 2–5 km out | Private cars until they fill |
| Inner | Transfer point near the ghats | MSRTC shuttle buses only |
From the inner tier you walk to Ramkund or Kushavarta through pedestrian-only zones, and the Nashik–Trimbakeshwar road runs one-way. A hired taxi still earns its keep: it drops you at the ring, waits, and takes you on without a bus queue.
Two days and one night is the realistic minimum for both towns. On an Amrit Snan day add a night, because the walk, the shuttle and the queue eat the morning.
Day 1, 05:00 — leave Mumbai on Samruddhi; breakfast at Igatpuri; Nashik by 08:30.
Day 1, morning — Ramkund snan and Kalaram Mandir in Panchavati; our Ramkund guide covers the rituals and pandit costs.
Day 1, afternoon — drive 30 km to Trimbakeshwar; check in; evening darshan.
Day 2, 05:00 — Kakad aarti, Kushavarta snan, Trimbakeshwar darshan before the queue builds.
Day 2, afternoon — back on Samruddhi; Mumbai by evening.
Trimbakeshwar general darshan runs roughly 5:30 am to 9 pm. The trust suspended VIP darshan for Shravan 2026 (13 August to 13 September); expect the same or stricter in Kumbh month.
With elderly parents — avoid 31 August entirely; do a weekday in Shravan or a parva snan in November with the car at the door.
Want the akhada procession — 11 September at Ramkund or 12 September at Kushavarta; sleep in town the night before and walk.
On a budget — go by Panchavati Express and MSRTC shuttles on a non-snan Monday; rooms are 3–5 times normal on snan days.
One day only — Trimbakeshwar alone from Mumbai on Samruddhi is doable; both towns in one snan day is not.
Driving in on NH-160 in August and losing two hours at Kasara ghat.
Arriving on 31 August at 7 am expecting to park in Panchavati.

Panchavati budget lodges start around ₹900–2,300 a night in a normal week. Kumbh operators already quote cottages at ₹3,900 on quiet days and ₹9,900 on snan days. Our Trimbakeshwar Kumbh stay post explains which side of the 30 km to sleep on.
