Planning to visit Shirdi but not sure when to go, how long it will take, or how to avoid the crowd? This guide answers every question — so your yatra is calm and hassle-free.
Shirdi Sai Baba’s Samadhi Mandir welcomes around 25,000 devotees every day. On Thursdays and festivals that number can reach 1 lakh. A little planning makes the whole trip far easier. 🚩
🕐 Temple opening & darshan timings
The Samadhi Mandir opens at 4:00 AM and stays open until about 11:15 PM — roughly 19 hours of darshan a day. The day begins with Kakad Aarti and ends with Shej Aarti; ordinary darshan runs in between.
⏳ How long does darshan take?
It depends entirely on the day and the crowd:
So if your time is short, choosing the right day is the single most important decision.
📅 The best day — when to go
If you want to avoid the crowd:
- Lightest crowd — Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday
- Heaviest crowd — Thursday (Baba’s day), Sunday, and Saturday
Thursday has its own significance — but if your main aim is a peaceful darshan, pick a mid-week day.
🌅 Which time of day is best?
Between 4:00 and 7:00 AM the crowd is lightest, and the period right after Kakad Aarti is the most peaceful. If you want to do darshan and return the same day, arriving early morning is best — darshan is quicker and the rest of the day is free for Shirdi’s other sites.
🪔 The four aartis & their timings
To sit inside the Samadhi Mandir for an aarti you need a pass, booked 60 days ahead at online.sai.org.in. Even without a pass, you can watch the aarti from the darshan hall.
🧘 Tips to avoid the crowd
- Arrive early — before 7 AM is best.
- Leave your phone and bag at the hotel — they aren’t allowed inside, and the cloakroom queue wastes time.
- Pilgrims aged 65+ have a separate, shorter line at Gate 7 — carry your Aadhaar card.
- In the summer months (April–June) pick a morning or evening slot; the afternoon sun is harsh.
🗓️ How many days do you need in Shirdi?
For most pilgrims, 1 to 2 days are enough.
- In one day — darshan, a meal at the Prasadalaya, Dwarkamai and Chavadi.
- In two days — you can add Shani Shingnapur (75 km) and do everything without rushing.
If elderly parents are with you, keep two days — the trip stays restful and unhurried.
📍 What to see after darshan
- Samadhi Mandir — Baba’s resting place, the main darshan
- Dwarkamai — where Baba lived, and where the dhuni still burns
- Chavadi — where Baba slept every alternate night
- Gurusthan — the neem tree where Baba was first seen
- Lendi Baug — Baba’s quiet garden
- Prasadalaya — free, clean, sattvik meals (250 m from Gate 1)
🏨 Where to stay — the key to easy darshan
Where you stay in Shirdi shapes your whole experience. Staying within walking distance of the temple is the most convenient — especially if you want early-morning darshan or are travelling with elders. When choosing a hotel, check:
- The real walking distance to the temple (the exact figure, not a guess)
- Whether it’s advance payment or pay-on-arrival
- Whether free cancellation is offered
- Whether there’s a lift / ground-floor rooms for elders
On TripSaffron you’ll find verified Shirdi hotels — each with the walking distance to the temple measured in metres, real photos, and no advance payment. Elder-friendly amenities are listed separately.
