Trimbakeshwar is 175–195 km from Mumbai and 4 to 5 hours by road, the one Jyotirlinga you can reach for darshan and be home from the same night. By train, the 5:30 am Tapovan Express or the 6:20 am Vande Bharat put you at Nashik Road by 9 am, with Trimbak an hour further.
The temple is open 5:30 am to 9 pm. Here are the road, the trains that work, the tolls, and an hour-by-hour plan that lands you in the queue before it builds.
Both routes leave Mumbai through Thane and split at Amane near Bhiwandi. The old highway is cheaper; the expressway is faster and far less tiring.
Samruddhi Mahamarg: Amane to Igatpuri, 76 km, in about 40 minutes through the 7.8-km Kasara tunnel. From Igatpuri take the Ghoti road to Trimbak, roughly 57 km and 1.5 hours of two-lane village road.
Old NH160: Thane, Bhiwandi bypass, Shahapur, Kasara ghat, Igatpuri, Ghoti. Widening works caused 7-km jams at Rajnoli in 2026, and the Kasara ghat still gets monsoon landslides.
Via Nashik city: NH160 to Nashik, then 28 km west on the Trimbak road. Longer, but useful if you also want Panchavati.
| Route | Distance | Typical time | Tolls (car, one way) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Samruddhi + Ghoti road | about 180 km | 4 hrs | about ₹185 Samruddhi plus Thane entry |
| Old NH160 + Ghoti road | about 180 km | 4.5–5.5 hrs | about ₹280 at Arjunali and Ghoti plazas |
| NH160 via Nashik city | about 195 km | 5 hrs | about ₹280 |
Arjunali and Ghoti charged ₹140 each for a car in the 2024–25 notice; expect a little more now.
Nashik Road (NK) is the station, 36–37 km from Trimbak. The trains most people assume work do not: the Panchavati leaves Mumbai at 6:15 pm and the Jan Shatabdi leaves Dadar at 12:25 pm.
| Train | Mumbai dep | Nashik Road | Days |

| 22223 Vande Bharat | CSMT 6:20 am | about 8:57 am | Not Tuesday |
| 12860 Gitanjali (return) | NK 5:10 pm | CSMT 9:20 pm | Daily |

From Nashik Road, MSRTC buses to Trimbakeshwar leave Nashik CBS every 15–20 minutes from about 5 am to 9 pm and take 45–60 minutes. Citilink bus 245 runs from the station itself at about ₹70. A taxi is quickest; our Nashik Road arrival plan is here.
The Trimbakeshwar Devasthan Trust lists the temple open 5:30 am to 9 pm, with Brahma pooja 7 to 8:30 am and the midday Mahadev pooja 10:45 am to 12:30 pm. Kakad aarti is at about 5:30 am and Shej aarti at 9 pm.
Queue: shortest on weekdays before 9 am; Mondays, Shravan and Mahashivratri are the heavy days.
Donation darshan pass: ₹200 per person on the Trust site, same-day, last entry 9 pm. It was suspended through Shravan 2026; check the site the night before.
Kushavarta Kund: about 400 m from the temple, the Godavari's first kund, where Yatris bathe before darshan. Steps are steep and wet.
Dress: traditional wear for the inner areas; see our Trimbakeshwar dress code guide.
4:30 am: leave Mumbai. Thane is clear and you are at Amane by 5:30.
6:15 am: off the Samruddhi at Igatpuri, Ghoti road to Trimbak.
8:00 am: reach Trimbakeshwar, park near the bus stand, dip or sprinkle at Kushavarta.
8:30–10:30 am: darshan in the general queue, well before the midday pooja crowd.
11:00 am: prasad and a satvik lunch near the temple.
1:00 pm: leave; road works add time only via Nashik city.
5:30–6:30 pm: back in Thane; Sunday evenings at Majiwada are slower.
By train, the Tapovan gets you to Trimbak around 10 am and the 5:10 pm Gitanjali leaves the afternoon free. For the longer version with Shirdi, see Trimbakeshwar to Shirdi.
With elderly parents: taxi on the Samruddhi, a weekday, and darshan before 10 am. Skip the Kushavarta steps; sprinkle from the top.
On a budget: Tapovan Express out, MSRTC bus from Nashik Road, Gitanjali back. The cheapest combination that still fits one day.
On a tight schedule: the 4:30 am taxi plan; you are in the queue by 8:30 and home for dinner.
Avoid: Shravan Mondays, when private cars have been stopped at Khambale and shuttled in, and weekend evening returns on the old highway.
A day trip needs no room, but a night in Trimbak lets you take Kakad aarti at 5:30 am with an empty temple. The Trust's Bhaktniwas and simple lodges sit within a few hundred metres.
Stay in Trimbak for the 5:30 am aarti and Brahmagiri next morning.
Stay in Nashik if you want hotels with more choice and Panchavati in the evening; Trimbak is 28 km away.
Mumbai the night before: see where to stay in Mumbai before your yatra.
Leave before dawn, take the expressway, and the Jyotirlinga nearest to Mumbai is a day's darshan. Har Har Mahadev.
