The Rajkot circuit needs two nights: one in Dwarka, walkable to the Jagat Mandir for the 6:30 am Mangla aarti, and one in Somnath, close enough to walk back after the 7 pm aarti. Nageshwar and Bet Dwarka are day trips from Dwarka, so nobody needs a room there. Here is where each night goes.
From Rajkot, Dwarka is 225–235 km via Jamnagar and Khambhalia, 4.5 to 5.5 hours. Dwarka to Somnath is about 236 km down the coast via Porbandar, 4 to 5 hours, and Somnath back to Rajkot is about 195 km, roughly 4 hours.
| Night | Base | Why here | Walk to the mandir |
|---|---|---|---|
| Night 1 | Dwarka | Mangla aarti 6:30 am, Nageshwar 17 km away | Under 1 km if you book early |
| Night 2 | Somnath | 7 pm aarti, light show 8 pm, 7 am aarti before leaving | Trust guest houses 5–15 min |
| Optional night 0 | Rajkot | Only if you fly or train in late | Not needed |
Bet Dwarka is reached by the 2.32 km Sudarshan Setu bridge from Okha, so a Yatri leaves Dwarka after Mangla, covers Nageshwar and the island, and is back by lunch. The full day order is in our 3-day Dwarka, Nageshwar and Somnath yatra plan.
Dwarka's darshan windows are 6:30 am to 1 pm and 5 pm to 9:30 pm. The hotels that let you walk to both without a rickshaw sit between the mandir and Gomti ghat.
Right at the 56 steps: Pride Elite is listed about 70 m from the mandir, and Hotel Gomti is a two-minute walk to both the mandir and the ghat, with river-view rooms.
Within 400 m: Guruprerna Beacon Resort, and Hotel Damji with about 35 rooms, AC and non-AC.
Under 1 km, bigger rooms: Lemon Tree Premier at about 0.8 km from the mandir, the choice for families who want a lift and a buffet.
Mid-range rooms near the mandir show up on booking sites at roughly ₹2,400–2,900 a night for two in the cooler months. Expect more in Diwali week and on Janmashtami.
Dwarka has a long list of samaj and trust guest houses, and they are where Gujarati families stay. Three with numbers you can check:
Kokila Dhiraj Dham: AC single, double and triple rooms, quoted from about ₹1,500 a night. Many lookalike booking pages carry different phone numbers, so confirm the number before paying anything.
Shri Jaliyan Atithi Gruh: rooms from about ₹896, check-in 12 noon, check-out 10 am, no extra persons, about 1.8 km from the bus stand.
Kadva Patel Samaj: about 3.6 km from Dwarka railway station, a rickshaw ride to the ghat.
On Diwali week, Janmashtami and Kartik Purnima the walkable rooms go first. Book the moment your dates are fixed; the dharamshalas rarely sell online, so a phone call is the booking.
Shree Somnath Trust runs its own guest houses on the temple road, and they are the honest first choice. Somnath darshan runs 6 am to 9:30 pm, aartis at 7 am, 12 noon and 7 pm, light and sound show at 8 pm.
| Guest house | Rooms | Indicative tariff | Distance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sagar Darshan | AC only, sea-facing, Premier to 4-bed suite | About ₹3,400–6,000 plus GST | 8–15 min walk |
| Lilavati | Non-AC and AC | About ₹750–1,300 | On Somnath Mandir Road |
| Maheshwari | AC and non-AC | Budget | About 640 m from the mandir |
| Dormitory | Non-AC and AC beds | About ₹90–200 per bed | Near the Trust office |
Two things a Yatri should know. Rates on the Trust's page and on newer guides differ by about a thousand rupees for Sagar Darshan, so treat these as a range. And the Trust's rooms are booked only on somnath.org; pages elsewhere that take payment for them are not the Trust.
Private hotels in Prabhas Patan and Veraval fill the gap when the Trust is full. Most sit 1–3 km from the mandir, which matters at 10 pm after the light show.
With elderly parents: Dwarka within 400 m of the mandir, Somnath at Sagar Darshan or Lilavati. The 56 steps at Dwarka are the only climb; no hotel removes it.
On a budget: Dwarka dharamshala plus a rickshaw to Mangla, Somnath Trust dormitory or Lilavati non-AC. Two nights come in under the price of one hotel night.
On a tight schedule: Both nights at the Trust and hotel closest to the gate, so the 7 am Somnath aarti and 6:30 am Dwarka Mangla each cost no travel time.
With children: Lemon Tree in Dwarka for the lift and the breakfast, Sagar Darshan in Somnath for the sea view.
What to avoid: booking Somnath through a third-party page that uses the Trust's guest house names, and booking a Dwarka room 3 km out for a festival night and expecting a rickshaw at 6 am. Route detail for the Somnath leg is in our Rajkot to Somnath road and aarti guide.
Night 1 is Dwarka, walkable to the mandir; night 2 is Somnath, at a Trust guest house if one is free. Skip a room at Nageshwar or Bet Dwarka. Both are morning stops from Dwarka, and their timings are in our Nageshwar and Bet Dwarka darshan guide.
Sleep near the gate, and the first aarti of each day is yours. Jai Dwarkadhish, Har Har Mahadev.
