Shirdi to Shegaon is about 310–330 km by road and takes 6.5–7 hours via Sambhajinagar, Jalna and Khamgaon. There is no direct train from Sainagar Shirdi, but Kopargaon and Manmad both have daily trains to Shegaon station. This guide gives the road legs, train numbers, mandir and Anand Sagar timings, and a two-day plan for Yatris.
The route runs east the whole way: the Sambhajinagar road, then the Jalna highway, then NH-753 into Buldhana district, where Khamgaon is the last big town before Shegaon.
| Leg | Distance | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Shirdi → Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar | ~110–120 km | 2.5 h |
| Sambhajinagar → Jalna | ~65 km | 1.25 h |
| Jalna → Khamgaon | ~145 km | 2.5–3 h |
| Khamgaon → Shegaon | ~18 km | 30 min |
The Jalna–Khamgaon stretch through Sindkhed Raja and Mehkar is the slow part, with two-lane sections and town traffic. Budget 7 hours door to door with one tea stop, not the 4 hours some cab aggregators advertise. The first leg is covered in detail in our Shirdi to Sambhajinagar guide.
MSRTC buses run Shirdi–Shegaon, but they stop everywhere and take 9–10 hours — a long day on a hard seat for elders.
Sainagar Shirdi station has no direct train to Shegaon. Kopargaon (KPG), 16 km from Shirdi, is on the line the Nagpur-bound trains use; Manmad (MMR) adds more options.
| Train | From | Departs | Reaches Shegaon | Runs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 11039 Maharashtra Express | Kopargaon | 03:05 | 09:15 | Daily |
| 26101 Pune–Ajni Vande Bharat | Kopargaon | 09:40 | 14:13 | 6 days (not Tue) |
| 11025 Pune–Amravati Express | Manmad | 18:00 | 22:18 | Daily |
| 12129 Azad Hind Express | Manmad | 00:30 | 04:49 | Daily |
The Maharashtra Express is the Yatri favourite: a 3 am start from Kopargaon puts you at Shegaon for the morning session. Shegaon station is about 1–1.5 km from the mandir, a short auto ride or 15-minute walk. Book sleeper or 3A a week ahead; Thursday and weekend trains fill fast.
Shri Gajanan Maharaj Sansthan runs the samadhi mandir with the quiet discipline Shirdi Yatris know from Sai Sansthan. The published daily rhythm:
Kakad aarti about 5:00 am, then darshan opens
Madhyan aarti around 11:30 am
Mahaprasad roughly 10:00 am–1:00 pm at the Mahaprasad hall, free for all
Shej aarti around 9:30 pm, after which the mandir closes
Some listings show a midday closure of roughly 12–4 pm; confirm at the Sansthan counter, because festival days differ. If you know Shirdi's aarti clock, our Shirdi aarti timings post shows how similar the two schedules are.
Anand Sagar is the Sansthan's 350-acre garden complex a few kilometres from the mandir, built as a spiritual retreat. The lake, the Dhyan Kendra on its island under the Vivekananda statue, and the landscaped walks are the reason to go.
Open 10:00 am–5:00 pm, every day; gates shut at 5
Entry is free at present; there is no online ticket
The toy train, water rides and most amusement sections have been suspended since the Sansthan refocused the site as an Adhyatmik Kendra
It closed fully for long stretches in past years, so ask at Bhakta Niwas before going. The Dhyan Kendra walk is about 1.5 km — fine for most elders at a slow pace; carry water and a cap.
Day 1 — Shirdi to Shegaon and evening darshan
Leave Shirdi by 6:00 am, breakfast near Sambhajinagar
Lunch at Jalna or Mehkar; reach Shegaon around 1:30 pm
Check in, rest, join the evening session and shej aarti about 9:30 pm
Day 2 — Morning darshan, Anand Sagar, return
Kakad aarti at 5 am, darshan while the queue is short
Mahaprasad from 10 am, then Anand Sagar from 10:30 am to 1 pm
Leave Shegaon by 1:30 pm, back in Shirdi around 8:30 pm
Avoid making Day 2 a Thursday. If the dates fall that way, finish darshan before 7 am.
With elders or small children: private taxi both ways. The 3 am Kopargaon train is a hard start, and the bus is 9–10 hours.
On a tight budget: 11039 Maharashtra Express from Kopargaon in sleeper class, the mandir's free mahaprasad, and a Bhakta Niwas room.
Short on time: Vande Bharat 26101 out from Kopargaon (6 days a week), taxi back the same evening — but that skips Anand Sagar.
Doing a longer loop: Shegaon pairs with Ellora on the way back; see our Shirdi in 1, 3 or 7 days guide.
Avoid: arriving on a Thursday afternoon or around Prakat Din, 27 February 2027, unless the utsav itself is why you are going.
Trusted by thousands of Yatris across India.
The Sansthan's Bhakta Niwas complexes — Visava (150-plus rooms and 72 dormitories) and Anand Vihar — are the usual choice. Rooms are allotted at the counters in Shegaon on a first-come basis for 24 hours, and every guest shows a government photo ID.
Beware websites taking an advance for "online Bhakta Niwas booking"; Yatri forums report several unofficial ones. Private hotels line the station road, and Khamgaon 18 km away has more choice on festival weekends.
Shegaon rewards the long drive with a mandir that runs like clockwork and a quiet garden to end on. Om Sai Ram, and Jai Gajanan.
