Grishneshwar, Trimbakeshwar and Bhimashankar can all be done from Shirdi in 2, 3 or 4 days by taxi. Two days is darshan only, three days is fine until the last evening, and four days is the version where nobody is exhausted. Here is what each length gives up.
The three temples sit in a rough triangle around Shirdi. Grishneshwar is near Verul, beside the Ellora Caves. Trimbakeshwar is about 30 km beyond Nashik. Bhimashankar is deep in the Sahyadri forest, and it is a dead end — one road in, the same road out.
That dead end decides the order. Go there last and the drive out points you home; go there in the middle and you drive the narrow ghat twice. So every sensible plan ends at Bhimashankar.
What changes with the length is how much sits between the temples, and how many hours you spend in the car on the worst day. Plan around that second number, especially with elders.
| Plan | Day 1 driving | Day 2 driving | Day 3 driving | Day 4 driving | What you skip |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2 days | Long, most of the daylight | Long, finishing late | — | — | Ellora, Panchavati, Shani Shingnapur, a calm dawn Trimbakeshwar, Bhimashankar in daylight, Gupt Bhimashankar |
| 3 days | ~4.5 h | ~5 h | ~8.5 h, back ~9 pm | — | The Bhimashankar night, Gupt Bhimashankar, any rest before the drive home |
| 4 days | ~4.5 h | ~5 h (easiest day) | ~5.5 h incl. lunch | ~3 h, home by midday | Nothing on the core route |
Day 1 on the longer plans includes Shani Shingnapur (about 70 km from Shirdi) on the way to Verul. Day 2 is the Verul to Nashik stretch of about 4 hours, then the 45-minute hop to Trimbak for the night.
Two days is possible, and we have a full 2-day plan for the three Jyotirlingas from Shirdi. It works by driving hard and treating each temple as a stop.
What you give up is real:
Ellora Caves — Grishneshwar is next door, but there is no time for the Kailasa temple.
Panchavati in Nashik — Ramkund, Kalaram Mandir and Sita Gufa go by the window.
A dawn Trimbakeshwar queue — you usually reach at a busier hour, when weekend waits can run 2–4 hours.
Bhimashankar in daylight — the forest ghat is often driven in the dark on the way out.
It suits two fit adults on tight leave who have seen Ellora before — not elders, children or first-timers.
Three days keeps everything good about the first half of the loop. Day 1 still has Shani Shingnapur, Grishneshwar and 2.5 hours at Ellora. Day 2 still has Panchavati and the evening aarti at the ghats, with the night at Trimbak.
The cost lands on Day 3. You still take first-light darshan at Trimbakeshwar, then drive about 5.5 hours south to Bhimashankar. After the long flight of steps down to the temple and back up, you get in the car again for roughly 3 more hours to Shirdi, arriving around 9 pm.
That is about 8.5 hours of driving on the day with the most walking. It works for a fit group that wants to save a hotel night. It is hard on elders, and the forest ghat out of Bhimashankar is slower in fog or rain.
The 4-day loop exists to avoid that last-evening crunch. Day 3 ends at Bhimashankar, with your registered darshan slot in the afternoon and a bed a short walk from the temple.
The extra night buys you:
No night ghat driving — the forest road out is done on Day 4 morning, in daylight.
Gupt Bhimashankar — an optional forest walk, or a second dawn darshan before leaving.
A short last day — about 3 hours via Manchar and Sangamner, dropped at your Shirdi hotel around midday.
Recovery time — after the hardest steps of the trip, nobody gets straight back in the car.
With elders or small children — 4 days. The Bhimashankar steps plus 8.5 hours in the car is the day that goes wrong.
First visit to the region — 4 days. Ellora and Panchavati are half the reason people remember this trip, and both are covered in our Ellora guide from Shirdi.
Fit group, only three days of leave — 3 days, but start early on Day 3 and keep the Trimbakeshwar darshan at dawn.
Two adults, darshan only, seen Ellora before — 2 days can work.
Travelling in monsoon — lean longer. The Bhimashankar ghat is foggy and slow, though the forest is at its best.
What to avoid on any length: starting on a Tuesday, Shravan Mondays and Mahashivratri (6 March 2027). Shravan 2027 runs roughly 3–31 August, and it overlaps widely reported Simhastha Kumbh bathing days at Trimbakeshwar, so expect very heavy crowds on this route then.
A few things apply whatever plan you pick:
Book the Bhimashankar room first — it has the fewest and most basic rooms, and weekends and Shravan fill up.
Register the Bhimashankar darshan online on the temple trust's site. Hours have shifted since the 2026 reopening, so confirm the current slot when you register. Our Bhimashankar darshan timings guide has the background.
Carry cash for tickets — Ellora is ₹40 for Indian visitors, and under-15s go free.

Stay is not included in the taxi package, so you book rooms yourself. On the 4-day loop the nights are Verul or Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, then Trimbakeshwar, then Bhimashankar. The 3-day plan drops the Bhimashankar night.
Sleeping in Trimbak town, not Nashik, makes the dawn darshan easy — the first-light queue is a fraction of mid-morning's.
If you can spare the fourth day, take it — the temples are the same on every plan, but the last evening is not. Om Sai Ram · Har Har Mahadev.
