Shirdi to Nashik is about 90 km by road, roughly 2 to 2.5 hours via Sinnar, which is why Shirdi is the sanest base for the Simhastha Kumbh. The Maharashtra government's schedule puts the flag hoisting at Ramkund, Panchavati on Saturday 31 October 2026 at 12:02 pm, with a parallel ceremony at Kushavarta, Trimbakeshwar.
Here is how to reach Ramkund from Shirdi by taxi, train and ST bus, and what changes on the Amrit Snan days of 2027.
The dhwajarohan is a formal start, not a bathing day. Sants, mahants and ministers gather at Ramkund and a silk saffron dharma dhwaj goes up. The President has reportedly been invited, so expect security cordons around Panchavati from early morning.
At Trimbakeshwar, 30 km west of Nashik, the Sringeri Shankaracharya is expected to hoist the flag at Kushavarta the same day. Both towns fill, but neither sees Amrit Snan crowds, so this is the most comfortable Kumbh day you will get.
Shirdi matters because Nashik rooms are already priced for the Kumbh, while Shirdi has thousands of Sansthan beds at everyday rates. For the full bathing calendar see our Nashik Simhastha Kumbh 2027 dates post.
Your driver takes the Shirdi–Sinnar road, joins the Nashik–Pune highway at Sinnar, and enters Nashik from the south. Distance is about 88 to 90 km, about two hours in normal traffic. Ramkund in Panchavati is another 20 to 30 minutes across the city.
Two things to tell the driver:
Leave by 8 am on 31 October. Panchavati lanes close to vehicles well before the 12:02 pm ceremony.
Drop near Panchavati, not at Ramkund. The last stretch is always a walk through old Nashik's lanes.
Trains are cheap but poorly timed for a noon ceremony. Sainagar Shirdi (SNSI) has few departures; the frequent trains run from Manmad Junction (MMR), 60 km away, with roughly two dozen daily trains to Nashik Road (NK).
| Train | From | Departs | Nashik Road | Days |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 12132 Sainagar Shirdi–Dadar Exp | SNSI | 22:20 | 00:52 (next day) | Sun, Tue, Thu |
| 22148 Sainagar Shirdi–Dadar SF | SNSI | 07:20 | 09:39 | Sat (confirm) |
| 11002 Nandigram Exp | MMR | 00:25 | 01:22 | Daily |
| 12321 Mumbai Mail | MMR | 06:55 | about 07:50 | Daily |
Nashik Road station is about 10 km from Ramkund, so add an auto or city bus. The overnight 12132 lands you at 1 am, which works only with a Nashik room booked. Check IRCTC or NTES a day before; Kumbh specials are expected.
MSRTC runs ordinary and Shivshahi services through the day from Shirdi bus stand to Nashik's Mahamarg stand. We could not confirm frequency or fare after the 2026 revision; check the ST Mahamarg app the day before.
The Kumbh transport blueprint:
4,500 MSRTC buses planned as shuttles between outer parking and the ghats.
Five stations in the shuttle network: Nashik Road, Deolali, Odha, Kherwadi, Kasbe Sukne.
Indicative parking corridors: Gangapur, Pune, Dindori and Mumbai Roads.
From Shirdi you enter on Pune Road, so on Amrit Snan days expect to be stopped at a Pune Road hub and bused in. On 31 October only the Panchavati cordons are expected.
With elderly parents: private taxi, leave by 8 am, drop at Panchavati, return after the evening Godavari aarti. Avoid ST buses.
On a budget: ST bus to Mahamarg, then a city bus or shared auto to Panchavati. Start before 7 am.
On a tight schedule: taxi both ways, Trimbakeshwar in the afternoon, back for Shej aarti. Skip the trains.
Avoid a Nashik room only for 31 October; the ceremony ends by afternoon and Shirdi is two hours away.
Trimbakeshwar is 30 km west of Nashik, about 45 minutes by taxi. Its own flag hoisting at Kushavarta is also on 31 October, so the town will be busy but open. The temple generally keeps 5:30 am to 9 pm darshan hours, with Shej aarti at 9 pm.
We could not confirm special hours for 31 October, so reach Trimbak by 3 pm. The full loop is about 240 km and 12 hours. For a night there read our Trimbakeshwar Kumbh 2027 stays guide; our Ramkund guide covers the snan and pind daan rituals.

For 31 October, Shirdi wins clearly. For an Amrit Snan day in 2027, Nashik wins only if you can book now and accept the price.
| Option | Typical rate | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Sai Ashram (Sansthan) | about ₹200–500 | 3-bed rooms; minimum 24 h, maximum 48 h |
| Dwarawati (Sansthan) | about ₹500–900 | 334 rooms; no single occupancy |
| Shirdi private hotel | about ₹1,800–2,800 | Everyday 3-star averages |
| Nashik hotel | several times Shirdi | Kumbh pricing already visible |
Sansthan rates come from its own site but are undated, so treat them as indicative. ID cards for every guest are compulsory. We could not confirm how far ahead the online window opens for Kumbh nights; check live availability the moment your dates are fixed.
Reach Ramkund by 10 am on 31 October, watch the dhwaj rise at 12:02, and be back for Shej aarti. Om Sai Ram.
