The Ashtavinayak yatra from Pune covers eight Ganpati temples in a single 2-day loop of roughly 650-700 km, and almost every operator runs the same Day-1/Day-2 split with an overnight halt near Ozar. Here is the actual route, timings, fares, and what's currently closed, so you can plan the trip instead of guessing at it.
The shastra-prescribed sequence is Morgaon → Siddhatek → Pali → Mahad → Theur → Lenyadri → Ozar → Ranjangaon → back to Morgaon. On the road, that order is a disaster: Siddhatek to Pali alone is over 200 km, since Pali and Mahad sit off toward Raigad district while the other six cluster north-east of Pune.
So operators reshuffle it by geography.
Day 1: Pune → Morgaon (Mayureshwar) → Siddhatek (Siddhivinayak) → Theur (Chintamani) → Ranjangaon (Mahaganapati) → overnight near Ozar.
Day 2: Ozar (Vighnahar) → Lenyadri (Girijatmaj) → Pali (Ballaleshwar) → Mahad (Varadvinayak) → back to Pune.
Rough one-way distances from Pune:
Theur — ~25 km
Ranjangaon — ~50 km
Morgaon — ~64 km
Ozar — ~85 km
Mahad — ~83 km
Lenyadri — ~94 km
Siddhatek — ~98 km
Pali — ~110 km
Most operators leave Pune by 5:00 AM on Day 1 — the only way to clear four temples, lunch, and the drive to Ozar before dark.
Most of the eight temples open between 5 and 6 AM and stay open until around 9-9:30 PM. The catch is the midday window: several, Ranjangaon among them, pause public darshan for roughly an hour or two in late morning for the naivedya and aarti, so don't plan your last morning stop for 11:30 — build in slack or push it to right after lunch.
None charge an entry ticket, and Maharashtra abolished paid VIP/priority darshan passes at state-linked temples by a 2010 order — any site selling a "VIP Ashtavinayak pass" is a reseller, not the trust; the only genuine payments are optional poojas booked at the temple counter.
| Option | Typical 2D/1N cost (per head or per car) | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| MSRTC ST bus package (Shivajinagar/Pimpri-Chinchwad) | Historically around ₹900-1,000 per person — confirm the current fare at the depot before booking | Budget solo/group Yatris comfortable with a fixed bus timetable |
| Private sedan, 2D/1N package | Starts roughly ₹12,000 for the car, inclusive of driver, toll and parking | Small families wanting flexibility without a bigger vehicle |
| Private Ertiga/SUV or Innova | Roughly ₹15,000-17,000+ for the car for 2D/1N | Elders, larger families, anyone carrying prasad/luggage between 8 stops |
Which should you choose?
With elders or young children — a private cab wins: you control the midday break, the wash-stop, and how long you linger at Morgaon or Theur.
On a tight budget — the MSRTC package is the cheapest way to cover all eight, but it runs to the operator's timetable, not yours.
On a tight weekend-only schedule — only a private cab leaving by 5 AM Saturday and returning Sunday evening realistically covers all eight without cutting a temple.
What to avoid — don't attempt all eight in one day; ~650-700 km plus eight darshans in under 24 hours is what turns a yatra into an ordeal.
Three of the eight temples — Morgaon, Theur, and Siddhatek — were closed to devotees for about a month in 2026 (May 10 to June 9) for structural repair under the Ashtavinayak Development Plan, cleared by the Joint Charity Commissioner.
All three have reopened for regular darshan since, but the closure shows these sites can go into phased restriction with short notice, so a quick check with the temple trust the week before you travel is worth the call.
Yatris planning to bolt on the Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga — it sits close to the Ozar-Lenyadri belt many already pass through — should note it was also shut for roughly three months from January 2026 for its own renovation and should be back open by now; confirm before adding it to Day 2. See our Pune to Bhimashankar guide for that separate route and fares.
The same logic — geography-first routing, one overnight halt, a private cab beating a fixed bus timetable — runs through our Three Jyotirlingas from Sambhajinagar plan and the 3 Jyotirlingas from Shirdi in 2 Days itinerary.
Trying to bolt Ashtavinayak onto either in one weekend turns two full days into three — budget the extra day instead of rushing Day 2.
You have two real choices for the Day-1 halt: a private lodge or hotel in Ozar/Narayangaon town, or an MTDC-run facility with a fixed Ashtavinayak package tied to the tour.
Ozar town has more private options and is the common pick because it sits closer to Day 2's first two stops — Ozar itself and Lenyadri, roughly 6 km apart — cutting the next morning's drive before the longer Pali-Mahad leg.
Rooms here are basic, so keep expectations at "clean and functional," and carry your own toiletries.
Ganpati Bappa Morya — may your Ashtavinayak yatra be smooth, well-timed, and free of the queues that catch unprepared Yatris on the wrong date.
