The Ashtavinayak yatra from Pune in its traditional order runs Morgaon → Siddhatek → Pali → Mahad → Theur → Lenyadri → Ozar → Ranjangaon, ending with a second darshan at Morgaon. Done strictly, it is roughly 700–750 km over two days with one overnight halt. Here are the real distances, temple timings, halt towns and car costs.
The shastrokta sequence starts and ends with Mayureshwar of Morgaon. In between it follows a fixed order that ignores geography, which is exactly why a strict yatra costs more kilometres than a convenience loop.
Morgaon — Mayureshwar, Pune district
Siddhatek — Siddhivinayak, on the Bhima river, Ahmednagar district
Pali — Ballaleshwar, Raigad district
Mahad — Varadvinayak, near Khopoli, Raigad district
Theur — Chintamani, Pune district
Lenyadri — Girijatmaj, the only cave temple, Junnar
Ozar — Vighnahar, Junnar
Ranjangaon — Mahaganapati, Shirur taluka
Morgaon again — the yatra is considered complete only after this return darshan
Siddhatek is the only Ashtavinayak murti whose trunk turns to the right. Lenyadri sits in cave 8 of a group of 18 Buddhist caves. These are the two temples that set the pace of your two days.
Leave Pune by 5:30 AM. Both days are long, and each temple visit costs 30–60 minutes including parking and the queue.
Day 1 — Pune to Mahad (roughly 390 km)
Pune → Morgaon: about 65 km, darshan by 7:30 AM
Morgaon → Siddhatek: about 65–70 km, lunch at Siddhatek
Siddhatek → Pali: about 220 km, the long afternoon drive
Pali → Mahad: about 38 km; Mahad closes at 9 PM, so reach by 8
Night halt at Mahad or Khopoli
Day 2 — Mahad to Pune (roughly 350 km)
Mahad → Theur: about 106 km via the Expressway and Loni Kalbhor
Theur → Lenyadri: about 110 km through Rajgurunagar and Narayangaon
Lenyadri → Ozar: about 15 km, 25–30 minutes
Ozar → Ranjangaon: about 70 km
Ranjangaon → Pune: about 50 km on the Ahmednagar highway
The closing Morgaon darshan is the piece most two-day Pune groups drop. Add it and day 2 stretches past 10 PM. If the full order matters to your family, make it three days; our complete 2-day circuit guide covers the shorter geographic loop that most operators actually drive.
| Temple | Usual hours | From Pune |
|---|---|---|
| Morgaon Mayureshwar | 5 AM – 10 PM | ~65 km |
| Siddhatek Siddhivinayak | 5 AM – 9:30 PM | ~100 km |
| Pali Ballaleshwar | 5:30 AM – 10 PM | ~110 km |
| Mahad Varadvinayak | 5:30 AM – 9 PM | ~85 km |
| Theur Chintamani | 6 AM – 1 PM, 2 – 10 PM | ~25 km |
| Lenyadri Girijatmaj | about 5–6 AM to 6–8 PM | ~95 km |
| Ozar Vighnahar | 5 AM – 10:30 PM | ~85 km |
| Ranjangaon Mahaganapati | 5 AM – 10 PM | ~50 km |
Two timings change plans. Theur shuts for an hour at 1 PM, so do not arrive at 12:50. Lenyadri closes earliest, and the trust serves lunch to yatris between 12 and 2 PM, which makes a late-morning climb the natural slot.
Operators quote the Ashtavinayak trip as a two-day package rather than per km, because the route is fixed. Quotes seen in 2026 from Pune cab operators:
Sedan (Dzire, Etios): roughly ₹9,000–12,500 for the car, 2 days
Innova or Crysta: roughly ₹16,500–18,500 for the car, 2 days
Tempo traveller (12–17 seats): around ₹24,500 for 2 days / 1 night
Per-km alternatives: sedans at about ₹12–13 per km, Innova ₹15–19 per km, with a 300 km per day minimum and a driver allowance of around ₹200–300 per day
Ask whether toll, parking and the driver's night halt are included; most package quotes include them, per-km quotes usually do not. Rooms and food are always extra. Darshan at all eight temples is free; the only ticketed items are the ₹5 ASI entry at Lenyadri and the optional doli.
On the strict order the halt falls after Mahad, so sleep at Mahad or Khopoli. Mahad has a trust bhakta niwas with very basic rooms, and Khopoli has ordinary highway hotels 10 km away. On the geographic loop the halt is Lenyadri or Ozar, where operators use the Ozar bhakta niwas and non-AC lodges.
Whichever you choose, book before you leave Pune. Both halt towns are small and fill on weekends and in the Ganesh Chaturthi to Diwali stretch. If you plan to pair this with a Jyotirlinga trip, Ozar is also about 85 km from Bhimashankar, which our Bhimashankar to Ozar and Lenyadri circuit explains.
With elderly parents: take three days, halt at Mahad and again at Ozar, and book the doli at Lenyadri. The steps are the only hard part of the whole circuit.
With children: the two-day geographic loop. Twelve hours in a car on day 1 of the strict order is too much for under-tens.
Strict shastrokta order: two days is possible but every darshan must be quick. Three days with the Morgaon return is the comfortable version.
On a budget: share a tempo traveller between two families; the per-head cost falls below a shared sedan.
Tight on time: skip nothing, but start at 5 AM and eat in the car. Pack breakfast; the Morgaon stalls open late.
Avoid Sankashti Chaturthi and Angarki days unless the crowd is the point. Queues at Morgaon and Ranjangaon run to two hours, and the two-day plan collapses. For a longer Shiva loop from the same city, see the five Jyotirlingas from Pune.
A 5:30 AM departure is easier from the Hadapsar or Swargate side, which puts you on the Solapur road towards Morgaon without crossing the city. Yatris arriving by train the night before do well near Pune station and leave by the Shivajinagar bypass. Our guide to where to stay in Pune for a temple trip compares the areas.
Keep the order if that is what you came for, but keep the people in the car happy too. Ganpati Bappa Morya!
