Maharashtra's five Jyotirlingas — Bhimashankar, Trimbakeshwar, Grishneshwar, Parli Vaijnath and Aundha Nagnath — make one loop of roughly 1,400 km from Pune that realistically needs 5 to 6 days. This guide gives the drive times leg by leg, each temple's darshan hours, where to halt each night and what a car costs in 2026.
The five sit in a wide arc: two in the Sahyadris to the north-west, one near Ellora, two deep in Marathwada. Driving them clockwise from Pune keeps every leg under seven hours except the last.
| Leg | Distance | Drive time |
|---|---|---|
| Pune → Bhimashankar | ~110 km | 3–3.5 hrs |
| Bhimashankar → Trimbakeshwar | ~240–250 km | 5–6 hrs |
| Trimbakeshwar → Grishneshwar | ~165–170 km | 3–3.5 hrs |
| Grishneshwar → Parli Vaijnath | ~250 km | 4–4.5 hrs |
| Parli Vaijnath → Aundha Nagnath | ~120 km | 2.5–3 hrs |
| Aundha Nagnath → Pune | ~420–450 km | 7–8 hrs |
That is about 1,300–1,450 km depending on halts. The Bhimashankar ghat and the Mantha–Jintur stretch before Aundha are the slow pieces; both are worse after dark.
Six days is the comfortable version. Five works if you accept two early starts and skip Ellora.
Day 1 — Pune to Bhimashankar to Nashik. Leave by 4:30 AM for the 7 AM slot. Darshan, then drive via Sangamner to Nashik or Trimbakeshwar. Halt: Trimbakeshwar (28 km from Nashik).
Day 2 — Trimbakeshwar to Grishneshwar. Early darshan, then NH160 to Verul. Halt: Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar or Khuldabad, 30 km from the temple.
Day 3 — Grishneshwar to Parli Vaijnath. Darshan at opening, then NH52 through Beed. Halt: Parli, where trust rooms run about ₹400–800.
Day 4 — Parli to Aundha Nagnath. Morning darshan at Parli, afternoon at Aundha. Halt: Aundha (basic) or Nanded, 55–60 km on.
Day 5 — Aundha Nagnath to Pune. Mangal aarti at dawn, then the long drive home.
With a sixth day, add Ellora caves on day 2 and Shirdi on the way back. Our 3 Jyotirlinga circuit from Pune covers the shorter western loop if Marathwada is not possible this time.
Normal hours are below, but all five change in Shravan and on Mahashivratri. Trimbakeshwar suspended its VIP pass from 13 August to 13 September 2026 in Shravan, and Bhimashankar's post-renovation hours are the exception in the table.
| Temple | Usual hours | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Bhimashankar | 4:30 AM – 9:30 PM (currently 7–11 AM) | Madhyan aarti ~3 PM, 45-min pause |
| Trimbakeshwar | 5:30 AM – 9 PM | ₹200 donation pass, 5–8 AM window |
| Grishneshwar | 5:30 AM – 9:30 PM | Men remove shirts in the garbhagriha |
| Parli Vaijnath | 5 AM – 9:30 PM | Abhishek 7 AM – 3 PM; VIP ₹150 |
| Aundha Nagnath | ~5:30 AM – 9 PM | Mangal aarti 5:05 AM, shayan 8:30 PM |
Trimbakeshwar also launched a ₹2,500 "break darshan" on 6 June 2026 that promises an exit in about eight minutes. The free dharma darshan and the ₹200 pass continue alongside it.
Pune operators quote the five-Jyotirlinga trip as a 4-night, 5-day package for the car. Rooms, food and darshan passes are extra.
Sedan (Dzire, Etios): roughly ₹18,000–20,000 for the car
Ertiga: roughly ₹22,000–25,000
Innova or Crysta: roughly ₹28,000–32,000; one 3-night Crysta quote seen at ₹54,000 with tolls excluded
Per-km alternative: about ₹11–13 per km for a sedan and ₹15–19 for an Innova, with a 300 km per day minimum
Group bus or tempo tours: about ₹9,000–25,000 per person including rooms and meals
Add two to three nights of rooms, a ₹200 Trimbakeshwar pass and a ₹150 Parli pass per person if you want the shorter queues. Bhimashankar has no VIP pass in 2026. Our guide to Parli Vaijnath darshan timings and the VIP pass has the booking steps.
Night 1 — Trimbakeshwar or Nashik. Trimbakeshwar puts you 300 m from the 5:30 AM opening; Nashik has more hotels and the MSRTC stand.
Night 2 — Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The city is 30 km from Grishneshwar. Khuldabad, 2 km from the temple, has fewer but closer rooms.
Night 3 — Parli Vaijnath. Trust bhakta niwas and station-road lodges. Parbhani, 55 km away, is the fallback with better hotels.
Night 4 — Aundha or Nanded. Aundha itself is a small town; Nanded, about an hour on, has proper hotels and Hazur Sahib.
Hingoli is 25 km from Aundha and works too. Whichever you choose, do not plan to drive Aundha to Pune after an afternoon darshan. The Aundha Nagnath route guide via Jalna explains why the Jintur road is slow at night.
With elderly parents: six days, halts at Trimbakeshwar, Sambhajinagar, Parli and Nanded. Buy the Trimbakeshwar and Parli passes; the general queues run 2–3 hours on weekends.
With children: six days with Ellora on day 2; two seven-hour drives back to back is too much.
On a budget: a shared tempo traveller with two families, trust rooms at Parli and Trimbakeshwar.
Tight on time: five days, Bhimashankar slot booked, no Ellora, no Shirdi.
Avoid: starting in Shravan without passes, driving the Aundha–Pune leg at night, and arriving at Bhimashankar without a registration.
If you want a Ganpati circuit from the same city instead, our Ashtavinayak yatra from Pune runs two days in the traditional order.
Day 1 leaves at 4:30 AM for the Nashik highway, so a room on the Chakan or Shivajinagar side saves half an hour of city driving. Yatris arriving by train the previous night do well near Pune station; the NH60 bypass is close.
Five Jyotirlingas in one week is a real yatra, not a weekend. Plan the halts and let the driving be the easy part. Har Har Mahadev!
