Datta Jayanti 2026 falls on Wednesday, 23 December 2026, Margashirsha Purnima, and Narsobawadi (Nrusinhawadi) on the Krishna–Panchganga sangam is the Datta kshetra nearest Pune, about 250 km away. The utsav runs for about a week before the day, so you can choose a quiet weekday or the Purnima crowd; here are the programme, darshan hours and routes.
The mandir's yearly calendar marks Datta Jayanti festivities from Margashirsha Shukla Saptami to Purnima, roughly 15 to 23 December in 2026. Many Yatris keep a Gurucharitra saptah that week, a seven-day parayan ending on the Jayanti.
The Purnima itself is the janmotsav; Datta is held to have been born at pradosh, so the evening of 23 December is the week's peak.
The Sansthan has planned for over two lakh Yatris and mahaprasad on past Jayantis. Treat 23 December as the crowd day and the three days before it as the comfortable window.
| Time | What happens |
|---|---|
| About 5:00 am | Kakad aarti and paduka pooja |
| 6 am – 10 pm | Darshan open on normal days |
| 8 am – 12 noon | Rudrabhishek on the padukas |
| 12:30 – 1:30 pm | Mahapooja and aarti |
| 3 – 4 pm | Pavamana Sukta parayan |
| 7:30 pm | Dhoop aarti |
| 8:00 pm | Palkhi round the mandir |
| 10:00 pm | Shej aarti, mandir closes |
Published schedules put the kakad aarti between 4:30 and 5:00, before sunrise either way. There is no murti here; darshan is of the two manohar padukas of Shri Nrusinha Saraswati, who lived at this sangam for twelve years.
Darshan is from the barrier of the small sanctum, so the queue moves steadily. Thursdays and Guru Dwadashi are the busy regular days, and Thursday 17 December falls inside the utsav week.
From Swargate the drive is about 250 km: the Pune–Bengaluru highway through Satara and Karad, off towards Sangli, then Jaysingpur and the last 17 km. Mapping services quote 3 h 40 min to 4 h 15 min; with a chai halt and December fog near Satara, plan four to five hours.
Leave Pune by 5 am for the morning Rudrabhishek, or after lunch for the 8 pm palkhi. Many Pune families pair Wadi with Kolhapur Mahalakshmi, 49 km away.
The nearest station is Jaysingpur (JSP), 17 km from the mandir; Miraj Jn (MRJ) is 19 km and Sangli 22 km. Two daily trains stop at both:
| Train | Pune Jn dep | Miraj Jn arr | Jaysingpur arr |
|---|---|---|---|
| 11029 Koyna Express | 12:40 | 18:52 | 19:09 |
| 11023 Sahyadri Express | 22:05 | 04:42 | 04:59 |
The Sahyadri is the Yatri's train: sleep on board, step off at Jaysingpur before 5 am, and an ST bus or shared jeep gets you to the morning abhishek.
No direct Swargate–Narsobawadi ST service is published. Swargate–Sangli buses run roughly every 30 minutes, about 4 h 20 min, around ₹400 ordinary and ₹600 Shivshahi; from Sangli, Jaysingpur or Kolhapur, ST buses go on to the depot beside the mandir.
The mandir stands where the Krishna meets the Panchganga, and Yatris bathe at the ghat before darshan; December water is cold, so carry a towel and a change.
The river also gives the kshetra its rarest sohala: in a heavy monsoon the Krishna rises into the mandir and flows out of the south door, the Dakshin Dwar sohala. Not a December sight, but you will hear of it.
Weighing Datta kshetras for the same date? Our guides to Gangapur from Solapur and Shirdi on Datta Jayanti cover the other two.
Audumbar (Bhuvaneshwari) is the other Datta kshetra from the same Gurucharitra chapters: Shri Nrusinha Saraswati kept a chaturmas there before his twelve years at Wadi. It lies on the Krishna 25 km from Sangli bus stand and 12 km from Palus, about 53 km from Narsobawadi.
It fits best on the return: Wadi to Audumbar to Pune via Palus and Karad adds roughly an hour, and you are still home for dinner.
With elders: sleep at Wadi on 21 or 22 December, take the kakad aarti and morning abhishek, and leave before the Purnima crowd and its evening palkhi.
On a budget: Sahyadri Express on 22 December night, ST from Jaysingpur, a yatri niwas by the bus stand, Koyna Express back.
Tight schedule: taxi out of Pune at 5 am, darshan, Audumbar on the return, home by night; a twelve-hour day, so skip the Purnima.
For the janmotsav: be inside the mandir compound by 5 pm on 23 December, with a room booked in early December.
Avoid driving back after the 10 pm shej aarti on the 23rd; the Satara stretch fogs over in late December.
Everything useful sits within 500 m of the ST stand, itself beside the mandir:
Shri Maheshwari Bhakt Niwas, 180 m, non-AC rooms listed from about ₹600, bhojanalaya on site.
Gurudatta Yatri Niwas, next to the stand, AC and non-AC rooms plus a dormitory.
Trimurti Yatri Niwas, 100 m, 2 to 5-bed non-AC rooms.
Mahadaba Patil Maharaj Dharamshala, 500 m, with parking.
Joshi Yatri Niwas, about 100 m from the mandir, veg restaurant and parking.
These are simple and fill a fortnight before the Jayanti. For a proper hotel, Sangli is 22 km and Kolhapur 49 km, about 1 h 20 min, with Mahalakshmi darshan on the same trip.
Go for the quiet morning abhishek or the Purnima palkhi, but with your room booked. Avadhoot Chintan Shri Gurudev Datta.
