The best time to do the 3 Jyotirlinga loop from Pune is mid-November to February, starting on a Wednesday, in a week with no Monday festival. That window gives dry ghat roads, cool days and shorter queues at Grishneshwar, Trimbakeshwar and Bhimashankar. Avoid August 2027 completely: Shravan and the Simhastha Kumbh bathing days overlap.
The loop covers three regions with different weather. Verul and Shirdi sit on the hot Deccan plateau, Trimbak is in the hills near Nashik, and Bhimashankar is deep in the Sahyadri forest. A month that suits one can punish another.
| Month | Weather | Crowd | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| Oct 2026 | Green, humid, last showers early on | Moderate; Shani Amavasya Sat 10 Oct, Dussehra Tue 20 Oct | Good after mid-month |
| Nov 2026 | Dry, pleasant | Diwali 6–10 Nov and school holidays; Kartik Purnima Tue 24 Nov | Great from 15 Nov, skip Diwali week |
| Dec 2026 | Cool, clear | Busy only around Christmas (Fri 25 Dec) and New Year | Best month |
| Jan 2027 | Coldest nights at Bhimashankar, misty mornings | Republic Day falls on Tue 26 Jan (bridge weekend) | Best month |
| Feb 2027 | Dry, warming | Shani Amavasya Sat 6 Feb at Shingnapur | Very good |
| Mar 2027 | Hot afternoons on the plains |
In short, December and January are the sweet spot. February and the second half of November come a close second.
The package runs Pune to Pune in a fixed order, so your start day decides which weekday lands at which temple. Four weekly patterns matter:
Ellora Caves are closed every Tuesday. Ellora is on Day 1.
Saturday is Shani Dev's day at Shani Shingnapur, your first stop on Day 1.
Thursday is Sai Baba's day at Shirdi, with the Palkhi procession at night.
Monday is Shiva's day. Queues swell at all three Jyotirlingas, and in Shravan they explode.
| Start day | Day 1: Shani, Grishneshwar, Ellora | Day 3: Trimbakeshwar + Bhimashankar | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monday | Ellora open; Grishneshwar Monday rush | Wednesday, calm | Fine outside Shravan |
| Tuesday | Ellora closed | Thursday | Only if you skip Ellora |
| Wednesday | All open, calm | Friday, calm | Best overall |
| Thursday | Calm | Saturday queues | OK |
| Friday | Calm | Sunday, busiest | Avoid |
| Saturday | Shingnapur Saturday rush | Monday at both | Worst |
Guides and Yatri reports agree that Tuesday to Thursday are the quieter days at Trimbakeshwar. Weekday mornings are also calmest at Bhimashankar.
From July to September, Bhimashankar's forest is at its most beautiful. Waterfalls run beside the road, clouds sit in the valleys and the sanctuary turns deep green.
The price is the last stretch of Day 3. The narrow ghat road through the sanctuary becomes slow, foggy and slippery. In heavy spells, authorities have suspended traffic on the Manchar and Khed approach roads after landslides, and sanctuary trails are often closed until the end of September.
If you still want the monsoon:
Pick weekdays only, never a Monday.
Keep a spare half-day in case the ghat is shut.
Accept that the Gupt Bhimashankar walk on Day 4 may not be allowed.
Choose early June or late September over July and August.
These are the dates that turn a two-hour queue into a whole-day wait:
Shani Amavasya: Saturday 10 October 2026 and Saturday 6 February 2027. Shani Shingnapur fills from before dawn.
Diwali: 6–10 November 2026, with Lakshmi Pujan on Sunday 8 November. Maharashtra school holidays run around the same week.
Kartik (Tripuri) Purnima: Tuesday 24 November 2026. A big day at Kushavarta and Bhimashankar.
Simhastha Kumbh flag hoisting: Saturday 31 October 2026 at Trimbakeshwar and Ramkund. Expect busier Nashik and Trimbak weekends from then on.
Mahashivratri: Saturday 6 March 2027. Queues run several hours at all three Jyotirlingas.
Shravan 2027: 3–31 August, Mondays on 9, 16, 23 and 30 August.
Our Nashik Simhastha Kumbh 2027 guide has the full bathing schedule. Tithis can shift by a day, so reconfirm with a local panchang before you book.
First-timers: a Wednesday start between mid-November and February. Everything is open and the ghat is dry.
Families with school holidays: the Christmas break, but start on Sunday 27 or Monday 28 December, after the Christmas weekend. Avoid Diwali week and May.
Monsoon forest lovers: early June or the last week of September, midweek, with a spare day.
Crowd avoiders: a Wednesday start in December, January or early February, skipping Shani Amavasya on 6 February.
Ajanta add-on: it needs a fifth day, and Ajanta is closed on Mondays. Make sure the Ajanta day is not a Monday.
What to avoid, and why: Mahashivratri week, all of Shravan, the Kumbh bathing days and Diwali week. On those days the queues, not the road, decide your schedule.
The package already times each stop for the quietest hour:
Shani Shingnapur at about 8:30 am on Day 1, before the day-trip buses.
Grishneshwar at 1:30 pm, after the morning rush from Sambhajinagar.
Trimbakeshwar at 6 am on Day 3. The dawn queue is far shorter than the mid-morning one.
Bhimashankar at 3 pm on Day 3, in the slot you register for online. Registration on the temple trust's site became mandatory when the temple reopened in June 2026.

Stay is booked separately by you, and timing changes everything here. In December, January and Kumbh months, book Verul, Trimbak and Bhimashankar rooms well ahead. Bhimashankar has only a small number of rooms near the temple, so it fills first.
In winter, pick a Bhimashankar room with warm bedding. Nights in the hills are much colder than Pune.
Pick your window, block a Wednesday, and let the road take care of the rest. Har Har Mahadev.
