Dehu and Alandi sit close enough to Pune and to each other that most visitors try to cover both in a single day, and the trip works well if you get two things right: which town to visit first, and which hours actually have the samadhi mandirs open.
Here's the real timing, the sensible order, and what the Ashadh Palkhi season changes if you're planning around it.
Sant Tukaram's Gatha Mandir in Dehu keeps two windows — 6:30 to 10:30 AM, then 5:30 to 8:30 PM, with darshan continuing informally to around 9 PM — and there's no entry fee.
Sant Dnyaneshwar's Samadhi Mandir in Alandi runs a longer single stretch, roughly 6 AM to 9 PM, with Kakad Aarti as early as 4 AM for those who want it, a morning aarti around 7 AM and Shej Aarti near 8:30 PM.
The mismatch matters for planning: if you reach Dehu after 10:30 AM, you're waiting until evening for the next window there, so a morning start favors Dehu specifically, not Alandi.
Start at Dehu — it's about 32 km from Pune, roughly 45 minutes via the old Pune–Mumbai highway, and fits neatly into that 6:30–10:30 AM window.
From Dehu, Alandi is another 22–25 km, about 40 minutes, and since it stays open through the afternoon you're not racing a closing time to get there.
Doing it the other way round — Alandi first, Dehu second — risks arriving in Dehu during its midday closed stretch and either waiting around or missing the Gatha Mandir's morning darshan entirely.
| Temple | Distance from Pune | Darshan window | Entry fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tukaram Gatha Mandir, Dehu | ~32 km | 6:30–10:30 AM, 5:30–9 PM | Free |
| Dnyaneshwar Samadhi Mandir, Alandi | ~22–25 km | ~6 AM–9 PM | Free |
Neither mandir enforces a strict dress code, but traditional clothing is strongly preferred and common practice — kurta-pyjama or dhoti for men, saree or salwar suit for women.
Photography and videography are not permitted inside either samadhi mandir, so plan to keep phones away rather than asking at the entrance.
Expect a genuine crowd on weekends, Ekadashi and any festival date at either site — a weekday morning start is the difference between a calm darshan and a long shuffle forward in a packed line.
By road:
Pune to Alandi direct is about 22–25 km, 30–40 minutes depending on traffic
Pune to Dehu is roughly 32 km, about 45 minutes on the old Pune–Mumbai highway
and Dehu to Alandi, the connecting leg, is another 22–25 km, around 40 minutes.
A sedan taxi for the full Dehu-Alandi loop from Pune typically runs in the ₹1,000–1,500 range one-way equivalent for a car like a Dzire or Etios, more for an SUV or Innova — most visitors book it as a half-day or full-day round trip rather than pricing each leg separately.
Outside Ashadh (June–July), this is an easy half-day trip with manageable crowds, especially on a weekday morning.
During Ashadh, everything changes: Sant Tukaram's palkhi leaves Dehu first, followed a day later by Sant Dnyaneshwar's palkhi from Alandi, and both towns fill with warkaris and well-wishers in the days around departure before the processions head toward Pandharpur for Ashadhi Ekadashi.
If your dates land anywhere near that send-off window, expect road closures, packed parking and darshan queues that bear no resemblance to a normal weekday — either build in far more time or plan your visit for a different month entirely.
Traveling with elders — go early on a weekday, start with Dehu, and keep the visit to darshan only; both mandirs involve some walking and standing in a queue.
On a tight schedule — a 6 AM start from Pune gets you through Dehu's morning window and into Alandi by early afternoon, back in Pune by evening.
On a budget — a shared or app-based cab for just the two temple legs costs a fraction of a private full-day car, though you lose the wait-and-return convenience.
What to avoid — don't start with Alandi if Dehu is also on your list; you'll likely miss Dehu's morning darshan window entirely.
Most visitors do this as a day trip from Pune city rather than staying overnight in either town, since both are under an hour from central Pune.
If you're combining this with an early Ashtavinayak leg or want to start before sunrise, a hotel on Pune's northeastern side, toward Vishrantwadi or Alandi Road, cuts a few minutes off the morning drive.
Start early, go to Dehu first, and the rest of the day falls into place around it. Jai Vitthal.
