Yes, you can take darshan at Dwarkadhish, Bet Dwarka, Nageshwar and Somnath in two days from Rajkot, with a dawn start and one night in Dwarka. The circuit is roughly 650 km of driving in three legs, and Bet Dwarka's midday closure fixes the Day 2 timetable. Here is the plan that works, and who should take 3 days instead.
The two-day plan hinges on one thing: reaching Dwarka before the evening darshan on Day 1. Rajkot to Dwarka is about 225 km via Jamnagar and Khambhalia, and most Yatris take 4.5 to 5 hours with one tea stop.
Leave Rajkot by 7 AM and you arrive in Dwarka around lunch, when the Dwarkadhish temple is closed for the afternoon. That gap is not wasted. Check in, rest, and walk to the Gomti Ghat before the doors reopen around 5 PM.
Day 2 is the long one. Bet Dwarka, Nageshwar and the Rukmini temple fill the morning, then a 4.5 to 5 hour coastal drive brings you to Somnath for the 7 PM aarti. Day 3 morning is only the drive home to Rajkot.
7:00 AM leave Rajkot. The road runs through Jamnagar; the Jamnagar to Khambhalia stretch is a four-lane state highway.
12:00 to 1:00 PM reach Dwarka. The temple shuts for the afternoon around 12:30 to 1 PM, so go straight to your hotel.
5:00 PM doors reopen. Enter from the Gomti-side gate; regular Yatris report it is less crowded than the main gate.
Around 7:30 PM Sandhya aarti, with Shayan aarti around 8:30 PM. Outside festival weeks a darshan takes 30 to 40 minutes.
Phones, cameras and smartwatches are not allowed inside Dwarkadhish. In September 2026 Dwarka police booked a visitor for filming inside the campus. Lockers near the gate hold them for a small fee.
Dress conservatively: no shorts, sleeveless tops or short skirts. Eat early, because you will want to be asleep by 10 PM for the Okha start.
Bet Dwarka sits about 30 km north of Dwarka, off Okha. Since February 2024 the 2.32 km Sudarshan Setu cable bridge has carried cars straight onto the island, so the old ferry wait is gone. Leave Dwarka by 6:30 AM and you are at the temple by 7:30.
Give Bet Dwarka an hour. On the way back, Nageshwar Jyotirlinga is around 20 minutes' drive from Dwarka town on the Okha road. It stays open through the morning and closes for the afternoon around 12:30, so you have margin.
If time allows, the Rukmini Devi temple, 2 km from Dwarka, takes 20 minutes. Aim to be rolling south by 11:30 AM at the latest.
The Dwarka to Somnath drive is about 235 km on NH 51 via Porbandar and takes 4.5 to 5 hours without stops. Experienced drivers on Team-BHP call the stretch "not all that great". It narrows to two lanes near the smaller towns, so do not plan on averaging more than 50 km/h.
| Leg | Distance | Driving time |
|---|---|---|
| Rajkot → Dwarka (via Jamnagar) | about 225 km | 4.5–5 hrs |
| Dwarka → Bet Dwarka → Nageshwar → Dwarka | about 60 km round trip | 1.5 hrs plus darshan |
| Dwarka → Somnath (via Porbandar) | about 235 km | 4.5–5 hrs |
| Somnath → Rajkot | about 190 km | about 4 hrs |
Two temple stops sit on this road. Harsiddhi Mata at Gandhvi, roughly 30 km before Porbandar coming from Dwarka, has a foothill shrine and a hilltop shrine up about 300 steps. The hilltop shrine has been under renovation, so ask locally before climbing.
Madhavpur, between Porbandar and Somnath, is where Krishna is believed to have married Rukmini. On a two-day plan, stop at one of the two for 30 minutes, not both. Lunch in Porbandar and keep driving.
Somnath temple opens around 6 AM and closes around 9:30 PM, with aartis at 7 AM, 12 noon and 7 PM. Arriving from Dwarka by 5 PM gives you time to check in and join the queue for the evening aarti.
Security is strict. Phones, cameras and bags go into the free cloakroom, and everyone passes metal detectors and a frisk. Carry only a wallet.
After the aarti, the light and sound show runs 8 to 9 PM on the temple lawns; it pauses during monsoon. Bhalka Tirth, where Krishna left his body, is about 4 km away. On this plan save it for Day 3 at 7 AM, before the drive home.
Veraval railway station is about 2.5 km from the temple, if anyone in your group prefers a train back to Rajkot.
Fit adults on a weekend: the 2-day plan above works. Book Dwarka for Friday night, Somnath for Saturday night, and drive home Sunday morning.
With elderly parents: take the 3-day yatra plan instead. The Day 2 coastal drive after a 6:30 AM start is too long for most seniors.
With children: two days works if you skip Rukmini temple and Harsiddhi. Children handle the temple morning far better than the long afternoon drive.
Festival weeks: around Kartik Purnima at Somnath on 24 November 2026 the mela doubles the queues. Add a day or shift the dates.
What to avoid: trying Bet Dwarka on the Day 1 evening (it is shut), and leaving Dwarka after 1 PM on Day 2 (you miss the 7 PM aarti).
Diwali, 8 November 2026, and the Annakut days after it bring Dwarka's biggest crowds of the year.
Kartik Purnima, 24 November 2026: Somnath's Kartik mela, plus Dev Diwali lamps on the Gomti Ghat at Dwarka.
December to February has the best weather. Dwarka stays around 26°C by day, while Somnath nights drop to 10 to 15°C, so carry a shawl for the 7 AM aarti.
Winter weekends are busy at both temples. A Monday to Wednesday run is noticeably calmer, and our Nageshwar and Bet Dwarka timings guide has the hour-by-hour detail for the island morning.
Stay in Dwarka within walking distance of the temple, so the 6:30 AM departure for Okha costs you no extra driving. Night 2 is Somnath, again within a kilometre of the temple for the 7 AM aarti. Our night-by-night stay guide lists the choices near each temple.
Two days is enough for darshan at all four temples if you respect the clock. Jai Dwarkadhish, Jai Somnath.
