The most comfortable window to visit Shirdi runs from October through February, when daytime highs sit around 28-31 degrees Celsius and nights turn pleasantly cool - easy conditions for standing in outdoor darshan queues.
Avoid the peak of monsoon (July-August) if rain-soaked walks between hotel and temple aren't your thing, and mark Shirdi's three big annual Utsavs on your calendar - those days turn a normal 2-3 hour darshan into an 8-10 hour wait.
Below is every month, plus the exact festival dates between now and late 2027.
This is Shirdi's most-visited stretch, and the weather explains why.
Daytime highs run roughly 28-31 degrees Celsius, mornings and nights in December-January dip to a crisp 14-16 degrees, and rain is essentially absent.
It's the season Yatris with elderly parents or small children should aim for - no exhausting midday heat, no monsoon mud near the temple courtyard.
The trade-off: everyone else has the same idea, so hotel rates firm up and the town feels busy even on an ordinary Tuesday. October carries an extra spike because Vijayadashami - Sai Baba's Punyatithi Utsav - lands inside this window.
March and April warm up steadily; by May, Shirdi is properly hot, with average temperatures near 31-32 degrees Celsius and afternoon highs touching 38 degrees.
Sightseeing in late morning and afternoon becomes genuinely uncomfortable, and this is when everyday crowds thin out the most - useful if your dates are flexible and heat doesn't bother you.
The exception is Ram Navami Utsav, falling Thursday, 15 April 2027 this cycle; that week brings winter-weekend crowds despite the heat. Our Ram Navami guide for Shirdi covers how to plan around it.
June through September brings Shirdi's rains, temperatures moderating to 27-33 degrees Celsius, with moderate-to-heavy showers turning the countryside green.
Hotel rates soften and everyday queues stay short - except during Guru Purnima Utsav, falling Sunday, 18 July 2027, a major crowd day regardless of rain.
Janmashtami also sits in this window most years; see our Janmashtami in Shirdi guide for what that festival adds to the town.
| Occasion | Date | Crowd Impact |
|---|---|---|
| Vijayadashami / Sai Punyatithi Utsav | Tue, 20 Oct 2026 | Busiest day of the year - 3-day Utsav |
| Diwali | Sun, 8 Nov 2026 | Moderate spike - family travel week |
| Christmas & New Year | 25 Dec 2026 - 1 Jan 2027 | Moderate - busy season peaks further |
| Ram Navami Utsav | Thu, 15 Apr 2027 | Major, see Ram Navami guide |
| Guru Purnima Utsav | Sun, 18 Jul 2027 | Major Utsav despite monsoon rain |
| Vijayadashami / Sai Punyatithi (next cycle) | Approx. Sat, 9 Oct 2027 | Next peak - reconfirm closer to the year |
Even in a quiet month, the day of the week changes your darshan experience.
Thursday is Sai Baba's own day and the busiest by far, with the free-line queue commonly running 5 or more hours.
other weekdays move in 1-3 hours.
and Sundays or holidays sit in between at roughly 3-5 hours.
The Trust's paid darshan pass (bookable up to 60 days ahead online) cuts this to 45-90 minutes through a separate line; a mukh-darshan pass can be under 30 minutes.
Within a single day, the shortest queues form very early - 5:15 to 7 AM, right after Kakad Aarti - and again around 1:30 PM once the Madhyan Aarti queue clears.
Want the quietest possible trip: pick January (after Makar Sankranti), February, June, or September; avoid Thursdays where you can, and steer clear of the Utsav weeks in October, April, and July.
Want to experience a big Utsav: build the trip around Vijayadashami (20 Oct 2026) or Ram Navami (15 Apr 2027) and accept multi-hour queues as the price of the atmosphere.
Traveling with elders or small children: stick to October-February; avoid May's 38 degree afternoons and muggy monsoon weeks.
Budget travelers wanting off-peak rates: June-September (excluding Guru Purnima week) brings the softest hotel pricing and shortest queues.
The same cool, dry winter months that make darshan comfortable are also the best window for side trips. Combining the Yatra with a wider circuit? Our guides to the jyotirlingas near Shirdi, the 3-jyotirlinga 2-day route, and Shirdi to Pandharpur all work best without summer heat or monsoon delays.

Bookings within walking distance of the temple move fast. For an ordinary October-January weekend, lock a room 2-3 weeks ahead.
For the three big Utsavs - Vijayadashami, Ram Navami, and Guru Purnima - rooms close to the temple sell out a month or more in advance, so book the moment your dates are fixed.
In monsoon months it's the opposite: confirm a room just days out and negotiate softer rates, since demand drops outside Guru Purnima week.
Whichever month you land on, the temple and its daily aartis stay unchanged - the calendar around you is what decides how the trip feels. Om Sai Ram.
