Every year thousands of Yatris continue their Maharashtra darshan from Sai Baba's Shirdi to the ancient Vitthal-Rukmini temple in Pandharpur. This guide covers the exact Shirdi to Pandharpur distance, the best route, and every travel option — private taxi, MSRTC bus, train, and self-drive — so you can pick what fits your yatra.
The road distance from Shirdi to Pandharpur is about 245 km, and the drive takes 5 to 6 hours depending on Ahmednagar city traffic and halts. There is no direct train and no daily direct bus, which is why most Yatris go by road — either by private taxi or by MSRTC bus with a change at Ahmednagar or Solapur.
The recommended route is NH-52 via Ahmednagar → Karmala → Kurduvadi → Pandharpur. Roads are in good condition throughout, with plenty of tea stalls and dhabas around Ahmednagar (~85 km from Shirdi) — a natural mid-way halt.
An alternate route via Barshi adds about 20 km but skips Ahmednagar's peak-hour traffic. Google Maps usually picks the faster of the two on the day.
Private taxi (most convenient)
A private taxi is the easiest way for a family or group of Yatris — direct door-to-door, no changes, luggage stays with you, and you can add halts along the way. Sedans (Dzire, Etios) seat 4 comfortably; Ertiga or Innova for larger groups.
Bus (budget-friendly)
MSRTC (State Transport) runs services from Shirdi bus stand to Pandharpur, but most involve a change at Ahmednagar or Kurduvadi. Private sleeper operators run overnight services during major yatra dates (Ashadi and Kartiki Ekadashi). Fare is significantly cheaper than a taxi but the journey stretches to 7–8 hours with wait time at the change point.
Train (not recommended for this route)
There is no direct train from Shirdi to Pandharpur. You would need to reach Kopargaon or Manmad, take a train to Solapur, and then take a local bus or taxi to Pandharpur — a full-day journey with two changes. For most Yatris, this option is only worth it if you're already at Kopargaon or Solapur.
Self-drive
The route is well-signposted and easy for self-drive, but Ahmednagar city traffic can add 30–45 minutes in the evening. Fuel and tolls together run to roughly ₹1,800–2,200 one-way for a sedan.
Ahmednagar Fort (85 km from Shirdi) — historic fort worth a 30-minute halt.
Jejuri Khandoba Temple (about 60 km detour off the Pune route) — famous Khandoba shrine; worth planning if you have a spare half-day.
Kurduvadi — small town about 60 km before Pandharpur; roadside dhabas here for lunch.
Pandharpur is busiest around the four major Ekadashi yatras:
Ashadi Ekadashi (June/July) — the largest gathering; expect very heavy crowds and full hotels
Kartiki Ekadashi (November)
Magh Ekadashi (January/February)
Chaitra Ekadashi (March/April)
Outside these peaks, the temple is calm and darshan queues short — ideal if this is your first Pandharpur visit. Weather is best from October to February.
Pandharpur has good options right around the Vitthal temple — bhakt niwas, budget lodges, and mid-range hotels within a 5–10 minute walk of the main gate.
Many Yatris pair Shirdi darshan with Pandharpur (and often Trimbakeshwar or Nashik) in a single trip. A typical circuit runs Shirdi → Pandharpur → Tuljapur → back over 3–4 days. A private taxi with driver is the smoothest way to run a multi-city yatra like this — no waiting for buses, no repacking, and you keep the same driver end-to-end.
Trusted by thousands of Yatris across India.
