Shirdi's cloakroom near Gate No. 2 is free for shoes and luggage, but a separate mobile-and-camera locker charges a nominal ₹5. There's also a newer digital SafeCloak locker near the Power House by Gate 1 if the Gate 2 line looks long.
None of it is complicated once you know where to go — but the Gate 2 queue alone can eat 40 minutes just to drop a bag, so here's how to avoid losing that time.
The main cloakroom sits near Gate No. 2, and it's genuinely free for footwear and general luggage. Phones and cameras go through a separate counter at the same gate, charging a flat ₹5.
That locker line is the one bottleneck people don't expect — it can run up to 40 minutes during a busy morning, purely to hand over a bag and get a token. If Gate 2 looks backed up, the newer SafeCloak digital locker near the Power House by Gate 1 usually moves faster.
Footwear and luggage: free, Gate No. 2
Mobile phones and cameras: ₹5 flat, same gate
Alternative: SafeCloak digital locker near Gate 1's Power House
Time to budget: up to 40 minutes at Gate 2 on a crowded day
Pack light before you even leave your stay — carrying in only ID and cash cuts this step down to almost nothing.
The Sansthan doesn't turn anyone back at the gate for clothing, but it has publicly and repeatedly asked devotees to dress modestly, and staff do occasionally flag visitors in very casual wear. Shorts, sleeveless tops, tank tops and ripped jeans are the specific items called out.
Fine to wear: sarees, kurta-pyjama, salwar-kameez, or simple shirts and trousers
Avoid: shorts, sleeveless tops, tank tops, ripped jeans, offensive prints
Why it matters here specifically: Shirdi has drawn national coverage over this exact issue in past years, so it's checked more consistently than at many other Maharashtra temples
Non-vegetarian food is strictly prohibited anywhere on the temple property, not just inside the sanctum — this is enforced more strictly here than the dress code. Photographing the murti through any device is also barred, even after you've deposited your main camera.
Barred everywhere on the property: non-vegetarian food
Barred inside: photography of the murti, on any device
Queue etiquette the Sansthan specifically asks for: no pushing, no raised voices, and no stopping mid-queue to fold your hands repeatedly — keep moving with the line
For the temple's own prasad rules and coupon system, see our Sai Prasadalaya guide.
The standard queue is free and open to everyone, and a paid darshan pass costs ₹200 per person, cutting the wait down substantially. The quietest window in either line is 4:00–7:00 AM, around Kakad Aarti; the evening Dhoop Aarti window near 6:30 PM is the busiest, commonly running 3–4 hours.
Shortest wait: before 7 AM or after 9 PM
Longest wait: evening Dhoop Aarti, around 6:30 PM, 3–4 hours in the free queue
Paid darshan (₹200): worth it specifically around evening peak hours, less useful at 5 AM when the free line is already short
Paid darshan can be reserved ahead of arrival through the Sansthan's own portal at online.sai.org.in, rather than decided at the counter on the day. Registration asks for your name, mobile number, date of birth and a photo ID — Aadhaar, PAN, driving licence, ration card or voter ID all work.
Print or download the e-ticket after payment, and carry the same ID you registered with — the gate checks it against your booking before letting you into the paid line.
Book at: online.sai.org.in
ID accepted: Aadhaar, PAN, driving licence, ration card, voter ID
Carry to the gate: printed or downloaded e-ticket, plus the same ID used at registration
Traveling with elders: paid darshan around evening peak, free queue in the early morning window
On a tight schedule: aim for the 4–7 AM window regardless of which line you take
Budget travelers: the free queue before 7 AM gets you nearly the same wait as paid darshan later in the day, at no cost
First-time visitors: deposit everything at Gate 2 well before you think you need to — the locker queue is easy to underestimate
Trusted by thousands of Yatris across India.
Rooms close to Gate 2 or Gate 1 cut down the walk with your locker stop already done, which matters most if you're doing an early-morning or late-night darshan run. For seasonal crowd patterns that affect both room availability and queue length, see our best time to visit Shirdi guide.
