Maa Baglamukhi Devi at Nalkheda opens for darshan around 6:00 AM and stays open till about 9:30 PM, with the main Sandhya Aarti near 7:30 PM. Nalkheda sits roughly 100 km from Ujjain, about a 2 to 2.5-hour drive via Agar Malwa. This guide covers timings, the road route, crowd patterns, and how hawan booking works at the temple.
Baglamukhi Devi is one of the ten Mahavidyas. The Nalkheda shrine, on the banks of the Lakhunder river, is counted among her most important Siddha Peeths in India. Yatris come here specifically for Shatru Vijay — protection from rivals, court cases, and negative influence.
That intent shapes the whole temple layout. The complex now holds close to 75 separate hawan kunds, because most yatris want a personal hawan, not only standing darshan. Budget time for the hawan itself, not just the darshan queue.
If you already read our Ujjain to Nalkheda route guide, this page picks up from there. It focuses on what happens once you arrive — timings, crowd days, and the booking process.
The temple follows a fairly fixed daily rhythm. Mangala Aarti opens the sanctum around 6:00 AM, and Bhog Aarti follows near 12:00 PM. Sandhya Aarti — the most attended of the four — happens around 7:30 PM, and Shayan Aarti closes the day near 9:00 PM.
| Aarti | Approx. Time | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Mangala Aarti | ~6:00 AM | Temple opens |
| Bhog Aarti | ~12:00 PM | Midday offering |
| Sandhya Aarti | ~7:30 PM | Main aarti, arrive by 7:15 PM |
| Shayan Aarti | ~9:00 PM | Temple closes |
During Sharad Navratri (11–19 October 2026 this year), the temple stays open later, closer to 11:00 PM. The hawan booking counter runs longer too, roughly 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM, since hawans are scheduled through the day, not only at aarti time.
The standard route runs on NH52 from Ujjain toward Agar, passing Barnagar around the 27 km mark. It continues to Agar Malwa town at roughly 70 km — the district headquarters, with fuel, food, and ATMs if you need a break. From Agar, you turn onto SH27 heading south for the final stretch into Nalkheda.
Total road distance works out to close to 100 km. A private car or taxi covers it in about 2 to 2.5 hours each way under normal traffic. Shared transport (bus to Agar, then a local connection into Nalkheda) is cheaper but adds waiting time at the changeover.
Which should you choose?
Traveling with elders or small children: book a private taxi — no standing at the Agar bus stand, and the driver can time your arrival around the Sandhya Aarti.
On a tight budget: take the Ujjain–Agar bus and a shared auto or local bus onward to Nalkheda; expect a longer, less predictable journey.
On a tight schedule: a private taxi from Ujjain that waits at the temple lets you do darshan and hawan and be back in Ujjain by evening.
What to avoid: don't add this as a same-day extra to Omkareshwar or Indore — Nalkheda alone already takes 4 to 5 hours round trip with darshan time.
Tuesdays are the busiest ordinary day, since the day is generally associated with Devi worship. Many yatris plan their Baglamukhi visit around it. The bigger crowd driver is Amavasya — the temple runs a special Shatru Nashak Havan on every new moon, and yatris travel from across Madhya Pradesh for it.
Navratri (11–19 October 2026) and Guru Pushya Nakshatra days bring extended anushthans and longer queues for hawan slots. If you want a calm darshan rather than a specific ritual date, a regular Wednesday, Thursday, or Saturday morning works best.
Weekday mornings, right after Mangala Aarti, are consistently the quietest window across the year.
Most yatris visiting Nalkheda aren't only doing standing darshan — they're booking a hawan, typically the Pramukh Hawan. It runs about 45 minutes at one of the temple's dedicated kunds. Booking ahead is strongly advised on Tuesdays, Amavasya, and through Navratri, since kund slots fill up by mid-morning.
The process at the temple runs in a few steps:
Choose your hawan type — general Pramukh Hawan, or a specific Shatru Vinash sankalp.
Provide your name and gotra to the pujari for the sankalp.
Complete the hawan at your allotted kund, guided by the pujari.
Collect prasad on your way out — it's typically distributed near the main sanctum after aarti.
You can book online through the temple's own portal in advance, or arrange it in person at the counter on a non-peak day. Either way, carry a printed or saved confirmation — it speeds up your check-in at the kund.

Nalkheda itself has very limited hotel stock. Almost every yatri bases themselves in Ujjain and does Nalkheda as a day trip instead. This also lets you pair the visit with Mahakaleshwar darshan or a Bhasma Aarti booking without adding a night anywhere else.
If your plan includes an early Bhasma Aarti before heading to Nalkheda, our guide to staying near Mahakal for Bhasma Aarti covers which areas let you walk to the temple gate. For pairing Nalkheda with other nearby shrines, see our one-day temple circuit beyond Mahakal.
Staying in Ujjain also means better food and medical options if you're traveling with elders, which Nalkheda's smaller town setup doesn't offer as easily.
May Maa Baglamukhi clear every obstacle on your path and grant your Shatru Vijay — Jai Mata Di.
